Very high HCG reading at 5 weeks, any ideas?

My friend who just got her BFP last week registered a very gigh HCG reading today. She had 2 embies put in and her initial reading was 498 at 4 weeks 1 day. Today her second reading was 6130 at 5 weeks. Could it be a singleton or or a multiple pg? She asked me to come in here and ask the question. Has anyone had a high reading like this and what was the outcome?

I don't remember my exact numbers now, but my last pregnancy in particular I had very high hcg numbers the whole way through - so much so that when I went in for a scan at 7 weeks all the nurses at my FS were absolutely stunned that I only had a singleton.

My pregnancy with DD1 also had really high hcg levels too - again I was warned it could well be twins but was just one.

I had very high HCG with my first pregnancy. Only one baby, but I was told before the scan it could be twins.

Thanks ladies, my friend would be relieved to be having one I think, but since she always wanted 6 kids she might as well wish for 2! lol.

Amy, no wonder your HCG levels were sky high with all your horrid m/s! You were such a little trooper

    Hi Miss.B

Congrats to your friend and good luck to her! My HCG at 4 weeks 1 day with DD was 420 and at 5 weeks 14650- just one very active little lady in there. FWIW, my HCG this time is low, very low in comparison to DD and have suffered hyperemesis gravidarum with both bubs.

My HCG at 16dpo with DD was 305 and with the twins at 16dpo was 351 - I never had any follow up BT's as my FS was happy with the first BT numbers. HCG numbers are not really a sign of multiples and having 2 embryo's put back obviously increases the chances but not always (DD's transfer was 2 embryo's and the the twins were 2 embryo's).

You will have to let us know what happens at her 7 week scan

Thanks for the replies ladies I actually found my old HCG results from my second pg with my DS2, and my first one was 280 at 4 weeks and 1 day, and then a week later at 5 weeks they were 7000. So my friend's numbers are not as high as we thought! lol. Obviously my pg ended up with a singleton.

Wow Andie, I must have read your post too fast, that's super high HCG results at 5 weeks!

Tarhli, thanks hun, I will keep you all updated

I had very high HCG with my DD and was told to prepare for multiples and also the possibility of ectopic.

I had a beautiful little girl - good luck to your friend.

My HCG was high in my last pregnancy. Was surprised to find only a singleton. Was told it could have been vanishing twin.

Re: Really high HCG at 3w6d.....

I was just reminded of this thread. I just thought I'd update (for anyone researching in the future) that my high HCG was linked to low Papp-A, which in turn did put us at a high risk for DS. Luckily for us DD2 was fine, but the low Papp-A meant we had placenta issues which caused many problems which for us resulted in severe IUGR, an early delivery at 36 weeks (at which point DD2 was just 1.84kg) and a stay in SCN. She's perfect now though!

Thanks for updating the thread Chody, glad all went well. I think my numbers will be high as well, just found out I'm expecting and HCG was 832 at 14dpo. Got a retest on Tues (will be 5 weeks then), hoping for just one healthy bub.
