thread: how do you cope with the worry of wondering whether the pregnancy will go right?

    Oh the worrying. I was so worried for the first 12 weeks, and thought once I had the 12 week scan and saw the heartbeat that it would be ok. Wrong. I still kept worrying that something would go wrong.

    The one thing that helped enormously is buying a doppler. That way, after 12 weeks you can have a quick listen to bubs heartbeat and hear that all is ok in there.

    Also once I felt her start moving I worried less.

    But, no the worrying never goes. Yesterday morning she hadnt moved all morning and I was soooo worried. She started kicking in the afternoon though.

    Im guessing that it never ends, even when bubs is born because you have a whole new set of things to worry about!!

    Worrying is completely normal. Believe me!
    In my first trimester I did an embarrassing 13 HPTs. It seemed to be the only way I could convince myself that everything was still going fine.
    Even now that I'm in my second trimester and have seen my baby, perfectly fine and healthy, up on the screen, I worry that something will go wrong. I don't think the worrying ever really stops - I suppose it's all part of being a mum!

    I think the best advice is to find ways to deal with the worry. For me, that was asking questions (a lot) on BB, and writing/venting in my blog. And although the worrying doesn't ever go, it gets easier to deal with.

    I think that worry in the early stages is pretty normal. It is all such a new experience and you really dont know what to expect from any aspect of it. I took the mantra "Don't worry about the things you can't control". Excess stress causes increased cortisol levels ( a hormone) which isn't great for the baby. You just have to keep going on with life as best you can whilst feeling terrible from ms and tiredness and take some reassurance from that. If you really want some extra reassurance you could always have an early ultrasound.
    If there is any time to listen to your body it is now. if your body is telling you to eat - then eat, telling you to rest - then rest.
