How much weight did you put on throughout your pregnancy
Hi Ladies,
I am a first timer at being pregnant and am wanting to know if you don't mind me asking, how much weight did you gain while being pregnant and how long did it take for you to lose the weight after birth. I am only 5 weeks and 3 days, and my size 12 clothes are tight on me already. I know it is early days, but I look pregnant already, my stomach is sticking out so much...
Hi there- firstly congrats on your pregnancy hun - hoping its a healthy and happy one for you!
I put on 6 kGS in the first trImester because I was nauseous and eating ALOT- I put on 15kgs all up so it did slow down and I lost the whole lot, 3 weeks after having her - I still have my jelly belly though so a bit of work to go!
Good luck!
at this stage it is prob just bloating.... try not to worry too much about the weight gain - if you exercise and eat relatively well (i have been much naughtier than usual - i cant hlp it) you will only put on what you/bubs need. I have, so far, put on about 6.5 kgs (am 30 wks) and there is lots of time to lose the weight and worry about it after bubs is born.
With my first pregnancy I put on about 25kgs (prior to preg was about 59kgs), my second pregnancy I didn't put on as much but can't remember how much, and this is my third pregnancy and at 29weeks I have put on about 18kgs so far.

with lachlan i put on ...... wait for it....... 27kgs! i was huge, it was mainly belly. I was really bloated in the beginning too. I ate pretty well. i went to my ob one month and he weighed me, then asked me to get off the scales, gave them a shake and asked me to get back on! I had put on 9 kilos in one month!
I lost the weight really quickly as Lachlan didnt sleep for the first 6 months and i spent hours and hours walking the floor with him all day and night. I was breast feeding too which apparently helps with weightloss.
I put on 2kg in the first trimester, and averaged nearly 1kg a week after that - grrrr.
and that was without GD, and under a dieticians direction, so next time I will be going on my instinct and we'll see if I can have a heathier weight gain.
Thanks so mch for the quick response ladies. The reason why I ask is because a person I worked with, only put on 6 kilos throughtout her whole pregnancy and had a healthy baby. I guess each one of us is different.
I am trying not to eat junk food, but it is so hard.
76stars - Wow....you are amazing...lost weight in 3 weeks, oh my goddness, what did you do?
I have been to your website to see Izzy...she is so gorgeous, like a little angel...
Hi I put on about 10 kg's. Usually 1kg a month and after I had bubs I was actually 2kg's lighter than when I began...mind you I had plenty of weight to lose before getting pg (I'm normally about 10kg over my ideal weight). I didn't eat much differently, I think it was just lugging around the extra weight that kept my weight down, iykwim?
15 kilos with my first pregnancy, and lost 10 in the first week after the birth.
So far about 8 kilos with this one, at 34 weeks, but I have recently been unwell so probably would have put on an extra 1 or 2 had I have not gotten sick.
I put on about 14 or 15 kgs with my daughter, and lost that within a couple of weeks. Breastfeeding definitley helps, and I was very active then.
A friend once told me that if you'rein shape before you get pregnant, and breastfed, then you'd have more chance of losing the weight quickly. How right her theory proved.
I am currently 36 weeks and have put on 11kgs. So I really can't see myself putting on any more than last time, but I'm not as active as I was then, so I think that it will be harder to shift this time around.
And like 76stars.....jelly belly. Sometimes stretched skin just doesn't want to go back.
You said it though Max, everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. As long as you are healthy, and bub is healthy, that's all that matters.
I've only just recently started to put on weight and i'm now 22 weeks along! 2.8 kgs so far, and i haven't been watching what i eat too much, apart from avoiding the obvious things like soft cheeses, canned tuna etc. So i think everyone is defn different, i was actually worried because i wasn't putting on any weight! Except after eating dinner i was usually a whole kilo heavier, and then by morning, it was gone!
Hi max, congrats on your pg. I started getting a belly from about 9 wks (first baby and I'm not very big in stature) and needed to get maternity bras and a belly belt before the first trimester was even over. I ate like a pig the whole pg - and even more when bfing!
All up I only put on 9 kgs throughout my pg (baby a tiny 2.5 kg). I had 2 kgs on top of pre-pg weight when I left hospital and lost those after bfing for 6 mths. I didn't even notice when they went as I could fit back in my pre-pg clothes earlier. I only realised when I hopped on the scales at a shop somewhere.
Everyone is different and I wouldn't bother using the scales at all if you don't want to! (I only did at my drs)
I'm like Kiera, I'm 23 weeks and have only just put on 2kgs. Remember that each of us is different and each pregnancy is different too. Try not to worry too much about it because at the end of the day a healthy baby is the most important thing.
With my first I put on 17-20 kilos easy. I did seem to have some water retention too but it most mostly savoury food. My starting weight was a little on the low side, and I enjoyed putting the weight on. I lost a lot straight up - maybe 10 kilos and then when my daughter was 3 months I got a personal trainer and shed the rest. Stopped at a weight I was happy with and stopped exercising too! (never been one for gyms anyway)
This time I'm around half the weight I was with my first and looking to put on somewhere between 10-12 kilos all up. I'm buying a skipping rope this time around and with a toddler to chase around shouldn't be too difficult to lose most of it.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
I weighed myself 4 days before my daughter was born and I was 4kg heavier than before I got pregnant, and I was one of those freaks that was back to pre-pregnancy weight by the time I was home from hospital. She was 2.9kg and a healthy little full term baby. I was 2 kg lighter 1 week after she was born, i suppose due to my milk coming in at that time? I ate well during my pregnancy - i just ate when I was hungry and I also kept active. I'm not one to gain weight when i'm not pregnant so i guess that makes a difference. I totally thought I was going to gain like 20kgs! but really, we're all so different and each of our pregnancies will be different. I was needing new bras at like 6 - 7 weeks, and was feeling (and looking!) so bloated at 8 weeks.
