    Question Light Spotting and Cramping

Hi, I'm 5 weeks pregnant (through IVF on 3rd cycle)and I am concerned that I dont have any of the classic signs of pregnancy, such as really sore breasts or morning sickness. Last night I had some slight cramping and spotting, which has since ceased. I didnt go to work this morning because I was so worried. I have called and left a message with my specialist and am waiting for a response. I guess I am looking for some reassurance in the meantime.

    Hi there AJB,

Sorry to hear about your worries - I do know how awful it feels to be unsure and I don't have many answers for you except that after reading tons of threads here you find out that all pregnancies are so different. Even people who have more than one find their different children had different pregnancies. anyway that's why I'm saying it's hard to say what's going to happen or if it's good or bad.

I never had sore breasts with either pregnancy but with this one contsant morning sickness (though no actual throwing up)until 12 weeks. Symptoms help you relax cause you think everything is okay but I know people who had complete symptom free pregancies too and they were fine.

I also spotted in my pregnancies. First one I spotted for a week and had a m/c. This one I spotted for three-four weeks and everything is fine! Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for your reply JordieC. I am heading off for a B/T to check on HcG Levels now. Fingers crossed.

Best of luck with your B/T.

But.. with symptoms... i never had any at all. I remember i was 5 weeks 4 days and started to get some very faint cramping. I called my sister, as she has had 3 kids, and told her, she said she had the same with all 3 pregnancies, thats its just your uterus stretching. She also had spotting with all 3 pregnancies. So hun.. try not to stress too much just yet.. hopefully youre just on a smilar path she was!

Thanks to everyone for your messages of advice and support. I have the results of my HCG B/T and my levels are 2300 (5wks 3 days). They were 330 at 4wks so they have risen, but not at the rate that they would expect. The nurse advised me that this might mean a failed pregnancy, so I have to wait another 48 hours for another B/T to confirm either way. I am waiting to hear back from my ob/gyn to discuss the seriousness of the results. I have looked at HCG charts on the net and they seem to vary considerably. Hoping that all, as facing another round of IVF would be miserable.

AJB - I was sypmtomless with DS & wasn't convinced until the 12 wk scan that I was pg coz I felt so normal. This time have had a little more m/s, tiredness etc from about 7 wks - think I have willed it upon myself this time though after suffering a m/c last August. We are all so different but pls don't think anything is wrong because you don't have the "classic" pg signs. All the best for a sticky, happy pg.
