microplasma effect on pg women?

just wondering if anyone knows anything about microplasma and what its effects can be on first trimester pg women, if any. my sister is coming to visit next week and she's told me she has microplasma and is worried about infecting me. I know its a pneumonia type thing but any advice or info would be great. thanks

I have had it (twice!), and let me tell you, it's no picnic. I don't know about the effects on pg women, but I would definitely talk to your Dr to find out. You really don't want want to be getting it while you're pg. You'll need to find out how long to stay away from your sister etc. It took me many months, and LOTS of antibiotics to get over it!

I couldnt find anything on microplasma but did find a pneumonia type illness called mycoplasma... is this what you mean? I have emailed you an info doc I found, hope is helps. It didnt specifically say anything about being harmful to an unborn baby, but if it is going to knock you around too much it might not be worth the risk. Its definitely good advice to talk to your dr about it, I am sure they will help you over the phone. If not, there is also that nurse line you could call for info.

Yep, it is mycoplasma. It's a type of pneumonia more common in younger people. Apparently it's not as bad as some of the others, but I was a VERY sick person when I got it the first time. I'd rather childbirth a million times over than pneumonia again.

thanks for your help sezjm and mel, the last thing i want to do is not spend time with her, so i will just have to speak to the dr and take all the precautions i can to not catch it.
