    No bump..

    Hi all,
Just looking for a little reassurance. I went to my Dr for 12 week check up last week and all was fine. When he was checking my belly he said that he "thought" he could feel something.

Hubby and I decided not to have the 12 week scan and will be having our first scan at 18 weeks and I guess I just wanted to feel reassured that at 12 weeks "thinking" that he felt something is OK rather than it being obvious. He didn't seem concerned at all but I guess a week later it's been weighing on my mind that he should have felt something more?

Am I just worrying for no reason?

Kelgil - did he use the doppler to listen for the h/b?
At 12 weeks there is still not a lot to feel I would imagine so that's probably what he meant when he 'thought' he could feel something. I am sure if he thought there was anything wrong he would have suggested a scan!? I am positive all is fine - it is so easy to worry at this stage isn't it!

I think at 12 weeks the uterus is only just starting to pop up out of your pelvis. Maybe thats what your Dr was talking about, maybe because its only just starting to pop up it might be a bit hard to feel it at 12 weeks sometimes?

    Hi Kelgil,

I'm not really sure what you mean, are you concerned about not having more of a bump or you think your DR felt something unusual?

If it's the lack of bump, i'm only just starting to show now, at almost 18 weeks... i think everyone is different when they start to show! It's hard not to worry about everything though, maybe you should just clarify with your DR about what he meant?

Yes I think the doctor would have been able to tell if something wasn't right & would have sent you for a scan if he had any suspicion of any probs.
Good luck, I hope you have a happy & healthy PG

Yes I think he was talking about feeling the uterus just near my pelvis. He didn't use the doppler - it is funny how the smallest thing makes you worry

He even joked about "phantom pregnancy" - and I knew he was joking - but then irrational me found myself waking up the next morning worrying that I had imagined the last 2 months of spewing!!!

Thanks as always for your reassurance everyone!

I wouldnt worry, if he was concerned that something waswrong he would have suggested you had a scan. he prob meant he could feel your uterus starting to push out. If you need the reassurance i am sure you could get him to listed to heartbeat with a doppler before your 18 week scan just for peace of mind... Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

    Hi Kelgil
He probably thought he could feel the top o your uterus. It would be unusual but not abnormal to be able to feel your uterus at 12 weeks or so

Kelgil at 12 weeks your uterus is just or about to pop out of your pelvis. There is a ridge that can be felt when this happens and it's the top of the uterus - it's called the fundus. I am sure this is what he meant. He "thought" he could feel the fundus.
By 13 weeks you will certainly be able to feel it if you use your hands to press down just above your pubis...

If you are at all concerned you can ask for a 12 week u/s for reassurance...

Kelgil, I was just starting to show around 20ish weeks with my son...and I never got super big, I went to church most Sundays and still when I brought bub along some people were like 'I didn't know you were pregnant'!! So don't worry about no bump mate. I guess your doc was feeling to see how high your fundus was (as the others have said).

As for phantom pregnancies, I can't tell you how relieved I was at my scan to see a real baby. Even though dh assured me, 'trust me sweetie, you're obviously pregnant, unless you've gone insane instead'...
