    No scans until morph scan

I as just wondering, is it really rare for people not to have any scans until the morph scan?

I was tempted to have a dating scan, but I know my dates, and my GP doesn't think I need one. He also doesn't see the need for the NT scan, which is fine with me, cos I don't want that one anyway.
A friend has just told me that I am 'brave' for not having any done until the morph scan. I don't understand how I am brave....

Anyway, I was wondering, how many others out there are not having any scan before the morph scan? Am I in a minority?
    Cheers.

I've had two scans done so far, at 6 weeks and 8 weeks. Party because I had some bleeding and a pain in my side, and I had to travel, so we needed to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. But the 8 week scan was really more to reassure us that everything is going fine, even though I had been spotting.

It was for me an immense relief to know that things measured out as they should: the diameter of the sac and the heartbeat at 8 weeks and so on. So I can relax more, and my husband is showing all his mates the photo of the 8 week ultrasound - yep it's a blob!

For me it was totally worth it to have an early scan done, even two of them, just for the peace of mind. No doubt other people's experiences will differ, though.

Alot of people dont have a scan until the morph scan. There is usually a reason to have one earlier. I had my first one at 12 weeks (NT) only coz i wanted to see bub. Im so glad i did it was the best scan i have had throughout this pregnancy

With DD the only scan i had was the morph scan.

With this preg I had the NT scan and the morph scan - thats it. I dont like the idea of too many scans, but that is really each to their own.

Some people have no scans at all.
I had 4 with DS, 1 for unexplained bleeding at 6 weeks at which point a fibroid was noticed so they wanted me to have them at 12. 20 and 36 weeks to check it.

I would have just had the morphology scan if it were not for my previous m/c's. I had 1 at 7 weeks and 1 at 11 weeks(not NT) because i was so paranoid.

If you are under 35 & aren't experiencing any issues then it's completely normal to not have a scan til the morph one. It is becoming increasingly popular however for women under 35 to get the NT scan done.

If I had been under 35 when I was pregnant I don't think I would've had the NT one done. I was however 41 so felt it was necessary. By the time I went into labour I'd had 8 scans. Had I not had the NT one I would have only ended up having 4 scans in total as the others were a result of having it done.

I'm having my 1st scan at 12 weeks,i might try to get an earlier one though. I just want ot know if i have 1 or 2 bubs in there,we have a history of twins on both sides of our families. For me on my dads side & for DH his mum is an identical.

I'm just hanging out to hear our bubs heartbeat & see bubs for the 1st time. I think then it'll actually start to feel truely real for me that we're having a baby, even though my bloods have proven it. I want concrete visual or audible proof

My sister only had two scans, the NT and the morph. I've had two already and will most likely have another two - I had NT, a cardiac scan, then I'll have morph and apparently an "early 3rd trimester" scan.

For me, its about the confidence of knowing - our NT scan picked up an irregularity and its about being prepared for what that means.

I had a dating scan done with Noah then nothing until the morphology scan at 18 weeks. That is when we found out he was unwell.
Because I have issues surrounding waiting until the morphology scan, plus the risk of problems, I had 5 scans when I was pregnant with Harrison, although 1 was because of unexplained bleeding and pain around 9 weeks.
I will continue to have dating, NT and morphology scans in any future pregnancies, plus any other's that may pop up.

I've had a couple of missed miscarriages so I always get an early scan around 6-8 weeks. It's basically a "yes there is a baby and a heartbeat" scan.

But I have chosen not to have the NT scan with any of my pregnancies so if it weren't for the history of miscarriages I wouldn't be having anything until the morphology scan either.

It's just a matter of what you're comfortable with. A good proportion of abnormalities will not be picked up in early scans anyway because they aren't checking for them or it's too early in the baby's development to see them. So I don't think it's especially risky not to have early scans.

A friend of mine had the morphology one as her first to find out she was carrying twins!
Really unexpected coz at her appointment they thought they had stuffed up some how & thought she only had 4 weeks to go. Turns out it was 4 months, there were just 2 in there taking up all the room!

I love scans! They put me at ease. I had one at 5 weeks to rule out an ectopic, and I am having one at 6w3d to check for a heartbeat etc. Then one at 12 and 19 weeks, and more at the end to see where bubs is sitting for delivery. I just love them

I am just having the 12 week and 19 week. As the others aren't really necessary unless there are concerns I can't see the point. I wonder what it would be like for the baby being pushed and prodded with that thing just for our benefit (ie just to have a look). As some prominent doctors such as Sarah J Buckley have noted, the safety of ultrasounds still have not been verified Ultrasound Scans- cause for concern.
I guess like any test you may need to have, it's good to be informed about the pro's and con's.
