Question Pap Smear & the possibility of Abnormal Cells

    Hi Ladies,

Had my first scan on Tuesday and saw little beanie with the little heartbeat flickering away and Gyno said everything was great and that I should come back in 2 weeks for a Pap Smear...

My last Pap Smear in January showed some "abnormal" "possible low grade cells". But because we wanted to have a baby and start trying Gyno said not to worry. Last time they "fixed" themselves so to speak but I can't help but worry now that they are going to show up again this time and they will be worse?

    So my questions are:
    A) Has anyone here had an abnormal Pap while pregnant?
    B) If so, what are the treatment options / did you recieve any treatment?

I guess I just want to make sure that little bubbie will be ok in there and I don't want anything jepodising it.

Thanks for reading & all help appreciated

    xxx

When I was pregnant with my first 14yrs ago, had a pap smear showing abnormal cells. Once bubs was born had a proceedure to burn the cells, can't remember what it's called now. Bubs was fine and havn't had anymore abnormal pap smears.

    Regards,
    Dianne

I had an abnormal pap smear while I was PG with DD1 - 15 years ago.
It was just watched & resolved itself, I had a few more abnormal smears in the years afterwards but none for a while now.

I'm sure everything will be fine

maybub, I think a few ladies on BB were told the same & when I had DD2 last year my GP said we would wait until after she was born.
Diannescruffy & I both had ours 14 & 15 years ago resp., so I think maybe things changed since then?

Im currently on a waiting list atm the have the LEEP done as i have CIN3. I asked him how long id have to wait after the proceedure to TTC. Im not pregnant but what the OB has told me is that it takes years and years for the cells to develope into cancer. He said if afterwards i do fall pregnant and they find the cells, then there is plenty of time for them to treat it after youve had bubs. They dont treat it or remove the cells while you are pregnant as it will thin your cervix and may least to complications.

So if it comes up with high grade, they will just wait until youve had bubs and then treat it.

Thanks Ladies for all your help and Info I was a bit worried but I'm not worrying anymore about it....what's the use! If they are there then they will just have to wait until Baby is born before anything happens. Like I mentioned in one of my first posts the cells fixed themselves last time so there is a good chance it might happen again hopefully!!

maybub - My Gyno told me it was perfectly safe to have a pap smear? I thought it was just part of normal routine while pregnant to have one?

Not as far as I know hun, and I would recommend getting a second opinion before you go ahead and get one done.

Abnormal cells can take 5-10 years to develop into cancer - my docs were all more concerned about the baby than any abnormal cells (I had CIN2).
