    Pap smears while pregnant

    Is it safe?

I'm overdue and I know my ob is going to tell me off

Wondering whether I should book in to have one done asap?

There has been a few threads on this.

I had a pap smear at 6 weeks pregnant because I was overdue, and there were no problems. BUT if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it.

The test can be inconclusive anyway when you are UTD and even if it did show something, not much they can do while you are preggos, so why worry yourself?

I refuse pap smears while pregnant, especially early pregnancy, just in case it causes a mc. You can have it done after the baby is born at your 6 week check

Mmm I wouldn't personally you just never know. It could be a bit of a risk!

My GP wouldn't do it when I was due at 8wks pregnant. She said it just wouldn't be worth wondering, if the pregnancy ended early.

So she let me put it off til my 6wk check. But I still had discharge, so put it off again.

And I still haven't booked it. I am so disorganised

my ob did one last preg in first trimester. She assured me first trimester is safe but if I'd been anything past then she wouldn't do it and would wait til after bub was born.

No probs, just do it. its just a swab up there. they don't stick it in so far it would cause damage.. if you have sex during pregnancy then thats no different.

I had one at 8 weeks as I was due. My GP wouldn't do it but my OB did. I trusted he knew what he was doing! All was fine.

My OB did one my first appointment, as I was well overdue. I would've been no more than 8-12 weeks at the time.

No dramas for me, and one less thing to worry about. I figure also I'd want it done early pregnancy when nothing much had happened down there, rather than 6 weeks after birth with an ouchy area
