Bit of a silly question here - does breathing in the smell of a smoker (you know, how the smell lingers on their clothes and around them) count as passive smoking?
The person who sits next to me at work is a very heavy smoker, and the smell has always bothered me, but now I'm a bit worried about it's effect on bubs. I think it's probably needless worry (actual smoke still lingering around him would be very minimal to non existent) but I thought I'd ask.
there wouldnt be any reason to worry other than he stinks. i cant stand the smell of cigarette smoke atm so it must be horrible for u. its not going to do anything to bub at all.
I wouldn't count that as passive smoking, because it's not actual smoke, just the stinky smoke smell. I couldn't stand it in first tri (I quit at 6 weeks and DP smoked until 8 weeks ago), but unless you're smoking or breathing in actual smoke I wouldn't worry at all.
Oh it's awwwwwwwful *yuck yuck yuck* I can't stand the smell of smoke anywhere near me and now that I'm pregnant, it is even WORSE!!! Yuck!!!! It's filthy...... and I too, worry about the effects on my bubs, especially when I have to walk straight past a whole heap of smokers outside the shopping mall entrance as they are standing too close to the door!!! grrrr that really angers me.
But as for the smell, nope that's not passive smoking but iykwim hun it's still yuck but i'd imagine pretty harmless.....
We have a couple of people who smoke outside our work building here and they don't stand the 4metres distance away they are meant to and even if they do, i still smell it, it really makes me nauseous.
I cant stand the smell either, maybe you could politely point out that while you dont care if he smokes you do care that the smell is making you feel awful and would he mind washing his hands and maybe spraying some form of deoderiser around after he steps out for a smoke???
I would do it, while its not passive smoking it is making you feel sick and thats not a good thing.
I work near a major shopping centre and visit there most days, i have to hold my breath when i walk past all the smokers grouped right outside the front door............yuck
They say that its fine, its just the smell but infact most children asthma can be triggered just by the smell of ciggy smoke, i can't stand the smell of it, makes me wanna puke. I get really angry and frustrated at those inconsiderate (lots of swear words to describe them) people who stand right outside doors with a smoke so when you do walk out you get a face full (just cause they wanna be unhealthy doesnt mean i wanna or i want my daughters to have to breath that crap in)
AAARRGGG makes me so frustrated!!
But i would def say something to him/her and check with your doc, why should you have to put up with it (what if you have underlying asthma??)
Sorry about the ***** fest i just get frustrated. lol
