I had a GP appointment this morning and asked him to take my BP because it was always a bit low last pregnancy and Ive been feeling crappy.
It was 85/60
Is that too low?
He didnt seem too worried and said there isnt anything I can really do, but after a quick Google (I know, I know...) Ive read that there shouldnt be less than a 30 point spread between the numbers. Is that right?
Also a midwife friend told me I should increase my fluids and a bellybuddy suggested increase salt intake- which I have been doing anyway as Ive been craving salty foods. Is there anything else I can do?
Could this be causing my headache that wont go away?
Not feeling too confident with this doctor, never seen him before and couldnt even tell me to drink more to help my BP.
Try another dr? I haven't really found much to put mine up especially when veins start dilating a bit and I eat salty a lot but def increase fluid intake , whenever I have a dizzy episode a have something to eat and drink and lye down for 10-15 mins usually fixes it
One of my biggest issues is I cant stand for more than a min or 2 without feeling really sick. I dont get light headed exactly just really weak and nauseas and have to sit down. So pretty much everything DS and I have eaten over the last couple of weeks has to be a grab and sit down kind of a deal. I also dont have a kitchen, so thats really helping. (Sarcasm) I cant do anything- no housework, no food prep, cant play with DS properly- because everytime I try I end up exhausted and feeling really ill.
Yeah I have exact same thing I've just kinda had to survive And work around it and improvise it helps dh helps a lot but we have basic meals I can make in segments so I can rest frequently while making them , I have built a playroom for ds so I can rest on couch in there and know he's ok and won't need constant watching I figure the housework isn't going anywhere and will still be there later so I do what I can on a good day
its only really a problem if you are symptomatic of it. which by sounds of it you are.
I was going to suggest increase your salt intake. and drink heaps of fluid!!
sorry dont have much else off the top of my head...but i will have a think about it for you
I've had low BP in the first tri of all three pregnancies. Sea salt is better than table salt, more potassium in it. Drinking isosmotic drinks is the best thing, though, like hydralite, Gatorade, lucozade anything like that will do a better job than just water. Eating will help too. Seaweed crackers were good for me, easy to grab and go.
I'm just coming through dealing with this myself, and believe me I know how tough it is! I couldn't get off the couch and was completely useless in the house. For what it's worth, it's not uncommon, and it's not dangerous, but it sure is miserable. I haven't had mine measured in this pregnancy yet, but in my last pregnancy, which didn't make me feel as lousy as this time, it was about 80/50 in the early months.
Drink as much as you can, and eat salty stuff, along with good protein. If you can manage it (and if you're like me, you won't be able to for a little while yet...) try a bit of exercise, just to get your blood moving. Also, do you think your iron might be low? Low blood pressure and low iron can go together. You could maybe have some bloodwork done to check, or you could just take some supplemental iron. About 50% of pregnant women do have low iron. I increased my iron intake and started feeling better pretty quickly, although it could also be related to how far along in the pregnancy I am now.
Hang in there though - it should start to improve soon!
All the best!
Yup what they said I always have low bp when pg mostly at the start (& again at the end) when the body is trying to make much more blood. I often don't drink enough and that is 99% of the time what the cause is - cant make nice thin blood without water and yes its quite possible your headache is from low bp, I get shocking migraines on occasion and its usually after spending the day running around town shopping and doing errands without stopping to drink enough (i feed the kids on the go normally & they have water bottles) when the blood is thicker its harder to keep pumping around especially up to the head where its really needed obviously, well that's my rather simplistic view of it anyway. Get yourself a big jug or even a water bottle that's just for you that way you'll be able to monitor how much fluid you're actually drinking. I would try aim for at least 3-4litres a day while pg especially whilst you're still BFing also.
Hope you get some relief soon sweet
