Pregnancy Symptoms in the First Trimester

Shelbel mentioned vivid dreams ... according to DH I have been blabbering on in my sleep for most of the week ... is this weird?? I occassionally do it, but like 1 or 2 a year ... not 3-4 times in a week!

Reading everyone's symptom lists, I think I'm giving myself phantom syptoms ... I don't even get my blood tests back until tomorrow to find out if I actually O'd let alone if I might be pregnant ...

The list is great though ... and it's good to see that some woman don't have any symptoms at all ...

One thing that I had that I haven't seen mentioned is stabbing pains in my belly button. I don't know if this is related to a botched key hole surgery I had done a few years ago but I got it from 10 DPO...!

I'm nearly at the end of first trimester and have the following symptoms:

Dizziness
M/S from wks 7 to 9
Slight queasyness from wk 6 to wk 11
Sore breasts
Slight discharge
Runny nose
A few nose bleeds
Vivid dreams
Pregnant brain/forgetful
had slight constipation & upped the fible = no more :-)
Pimples.... new ones every day :-(
Peeing a lot
Extremely tired

Just recently have been getting slight pains, although I can't really call them pains as they aren't very bad at all. Mainly when I'm lying down & roll over quickly. I hope everything is ok there.

Anyway my first ultrasound is on Friday so I'm dying to see bubs, am even taking a VCR tape so they can tape it for me. Will let you know how it goes.

I'm 6.5 wks with bubs #2 and it is very different from my first. I am experiencing absolutely no symptoms whatsoever (apart from a missed MP of course). My pregnancy has been confirmed but its almost to the point that I want to feel something, just so i know everythings ok. Has anyone else experienced this? I mean no sore boobs or anything? is this too good to be true?

Im 8.5wks, i guess i have been pretty lucky in the run of 1st tri side effects. I have only experienced headaches-if i dont eat ALL day long, Sore and rapidly growing bb, tiredness mainly in the first 7wks and major pregnancy brain, cant remember anything i did yesterday!

I experienced bleeding around wk 6 -had an ultra-sound and they found the little sac with a heart beat which was very exciting & a huge relief.

Next Ultrasound next month 11.5 weeks - Cant wait!

My pee is bright yellow too - - I thought it was from the Folate & vitamins?? [/img]

I'd have to agree with kent. I had spotting @ 6wks, scan showed hbeat. And again @ 8wks (7.5wk scan also showed hbeat). It can be quite scary, but very common I'm told. Most likely placenta diggin in further.

Is fainting a normal thing?

I was in the shower last night when I fainted. I put it down to having the water too hot and the steam got to me.

Anyone else had that?

I can't believe how few people have complained about morning sickness.

I have it so badly, I have lost 2Kg's and can't keep anything down. I had a scan yesterday, and couldn't even keep the water down that you supposed to drink.

Any solutions to morning sickness??? I am now 8 weeks and to add to everything, I have a big cyst on my ovary too. I give up! I was told that is normal, but have never heard of it before, and my doctor wouldn't be concerned if it WAS normal!

I have even been taking something for car sickness, and it mainly contains ginger, but that hasn't helped either. I never realise pregnancy was this bad!

Any suggestions welcome.

As horrible as morning sickness sounds as least you know everything is ok and the little bub is continuing to evolve in there.

I havent experienced any real morning sickness so cant really offer any remedy, hold in there only a few more weeks until its supposed to stop.

I deeply sympathise - I've lost 5kgs since the onset of morning sickness aswell.

Some helpful things I have learnt from old wives tales mostly - that do (on some occasions) work.

1) First thing in the morning, as soon as you wake up but before gettin gout of bed, eat a salada biscuit. (or any sort of dried bikky)

2) As silly as this is going to sound - eat smaller meals, more often during the day, for some reason this definatley puts my vomitting at bay for a while. The hungrier I get, the more I vomit.

3) Try to set out your breakfast the night before, therefore you wont have to open the fridge/pantry - this is the worst thing for making me spew!!

4) When I feel a spew coming on, I take bulk deep breaths - this also settles my stomach.

I hope that helps sweet, I know it's absolutley terrible - but just think it will be all worth it in the end (That's whats getting me through!)

Hi to everyone experiencing morning sickness,

I have been feeling a bit sick and on the verge of spewing as well. I really recommend chewing gum when that feeling comes on or popping a sugar free lolly in your mouth. Putting something in my mouth helps as it moistens the throat.

Also, I did acupuncture for 4 months before conception. Apparently, a weak spleen causes morning sickness. Mine was really bad but has been strengthened with acupuncture. Why not try that guys, it works wonders.

Hope you get some help with these.

i agree with the benefits of accupuncture, as I used to work for a Dr whom also did accupuncture & she had a 1st trimester lady in with severe M/S, that she could barely walk & she had lost lots of weight, her DH would almost carry her in every morning, with a bucket & Dr would do accupuncture on her & it worked wonders. Lots more success stories, including a couple whom had trouble TTC, as his sperm count was low, well she did accupuncture on him too & within 3mths she was pg.

I can honestly say, this is my first and last child. I can't go through this again. I have been sick twice a day for a month now!

I have also noticed that I have a very acidic taste in my mouth, which seems to change the taste of everything I eat, so I just don't like food at the moment either, because it all tastes revolting!

I give up.....

I hope all those queasy ones are feeling better.
I wasnt even aware I was pregnant for another week with Declan! However this time around, nausea and some vomiting, lots of trips to the loo (peeing), faintness, tiredness, irritable, pregnant brain to the max! (everyone thinks its just an excuse but its really bad) to week 6-7 I had sore boobs and bloatyness.
I figured I was pregnant when Declan sat on my belly when we were playing and it felt "different" (reminded me of first time around) .. also got told i was "radiant" and 7 days at least late for pd.
Sure enough did a test and bingo 2 lines...

Have been trying to be very good with diet - however got a freezer for first time in a year this week so icecream has been a must.
I appear to get very preoccupied with hot foods (chilli hot) when pregnant as well - this has already started?
Wierd!
Oh and metalic taste is yuck... and sense of smell etc (poor dog is outdoors for a few weeks)


Will find out about my BSL levels tomorrow (had gestational diabetes last time)

I think second time around you KNOW the symptoms so much better so you dont dismiss them as much...

To davisbabyblues... I always said I would have only one... never again etc.. especially with the diabetes and an emergency caesar.. but I love my little guy so much... I would happily do it all again to have another as beautiful as him! (and I was never a brrody or clucky one)

So you never know ... some of us forget VERY quickly once it is all over.. took me 2 1/2 yrs.. only takes some women 6-9 months! :) #-o

Sharon, thats just terrible, there is a name for what your experiencing, baby brain won't let me remember it though. Basically it's extreme morning sickness.
You may have to be very careful of your teeth as all the acid can start damaging them.

Hopefully it will just go away soon. I really hope it does, I bet you are exhausted from feeling like this all the time.

{{{{{huggles Sharon}}}}}} You poor chook! :( Morning sickness can be so evil - mine got so bad I couldn't keep down water and I lost 10kgs. I ended up resigning from work at 16wks pg because I didn't think the M/S would ever end and I couldn't cope with having to rush to the toilet to throw up every few minutes.

I used a combination of Maxalon & Panadeine Forte but found they only took the edge off and really didn't help that much with the nausea.

In the end, I found a few things that I could eat. Anything starchy like jam doughnuts (*L*), plain rice etc. Oh and I lived on Gatorade/lucozade/powerade for weeks.

I distinctly remember turning to my husband on several occasions and telling him firmly this was going to our only child; as well as begging him to put me out to pasture and shoot me! I was totally miserable; it seemed so unfair that some people barely got ill if at all.

The best part is that you DO get over the M/S eventually. Mine went away around 17wks and I'm totally loving being pg now. Well, most of the time!

Yikes at the extreme m/s Sharon, hope it subside real soon. I only had nausea & the very rare dry reaching. You poor pet.

Another to add to the list:
carpal tunnel syndrome (hands go numb at night, except for thumb & pointer)

I have started experiencing morning sickness quite bad now from the start of 6 weeks.

I don't seem to want to eat a lot of food which worries me. I live on dry biscuits, potatoes, cheese, lollies, bread and rice (sometimes salad). I just dont have an appetite because I constantly feel yucky and almost everything smells (but not spewing yet thank goodness).

What did everyone try to eat when they were like this and does this affect the nutrition of the baby? I am just worried I am not eating enough.

I am sorry to hear the MS is so bad. I am about 6-7 weeks at the moment and have had some MS but not as much as you by the sounds of things.

You are right to worry about not eating enough healthy foods in general especially if you have the MS for more than a couple of weeks.

I look at this list of foods and know I would be sicker eating this mix myself! But then I am coming from the point of view of a pregnant diabetic.
Too many carbs (simple sugars especially) will only provide you with energy and not a lot of nutrition - so you may end up malnourished.

Are you taking pregnancy vitamins? (might be a good idea just to top up vit. levels while you are this crook)

I would recommend you eat as much healthy food as you can stomach. Low acid fruits (bananas, peaches etc) and salads are a much better way to survive than on too much potato and rice.
The dry bikkies etc are ok but as with everything in life - moderation is the key.

I think I have learnt from this and my last pregnancy that you must look after yourself - regardless of your health before pregnancy.
Also it is not HOW MUCH you eat but the quality that counts. Whole grain bikkies are better than Sao/Saladas as there is more nutrition in them. Also eating often (every hour) in smaller quantities is much easier to digest than trying to eat Brekky, lunch and tea as larger meals.

Oh just FYI- I have spent 4 months in the care of a nutritionist last pregnancy due to Gestational Diabetes AND I have been talking to health and nutrition experts only this week in regards to this NEW pregnancy and nutrition... so its not just all my own hot air! :)

Please feel free to ask more questions and/or priv msg me if you have more questions. Also if you are worried... call your local hospital and ask to talk to a nutritionist.. they are usually fantastic and happy to give advice over the phone.

Hi. I have had really bad morning sickness for 7 weeks straight now and have lost 5kg. this is my first baby so i have no idea what to expect..
I am constantly tired and if I don't eat tea by atleast 6pm then i might as well not eat it at all. When do they reckon the MS stops..... really looking forward to that day. Its like having a hangover everyday - without having the fun of drinking.. I have read a few things tht people say make the MS go away but none of them working!! Anyone got any other old wives tales that worked for them

Welcome to BellyBelly!

Usually M/S eases up some time around the end of the 1st trimester. However some unlucky people continue to get it quite a bit further into the PG. Fingers crossed it eases up for you soon!

Unfortunately I don't think there's any one magic cure for M/S. Just a matter of finding what works for you I think. I found sour or salty things often made me feel a bit better.

Unfortunatly, sometimes noting makes me feel better. I just have to keep stuffing my face with food and I feel better. The more carbs and protein the better. Some yogourt is great too.

Maybe keep eating small meals throughout the day and see how you go. If you eat too much then you will fell sick.

Just a quick note to let y'all know I had an ultrasound to determine dates on my pregnancy this afternoon (its 7 weeks 2 days) and discovered completely unwittingly that I am now expecting TWINS!

Non identical and healthy so far!!

This might explain the mixed symptoms!!

I'm still waiting for AF to arrive (she's 4 days late) and am seeing the doc tomorrow for a blood test.. I was reading this forum because I've had some minor cramping, sore breasts and slightly darker nipples.. I keep thinking its just AF on her way.

Anyway all the best for you - I would be interested in hearing how you're going (feel free to msn me) as I'm also on the north side of Brisbane. Twins is also in both our families but I don't think we could afford two babies at once.

I am wondering about what stage these symptoms became apparent for everyone? I mean did you start getting them before AF was due or well after?

Keen, with Kynan I think the only symptom I got before AF was due was an increase in CM. Other symptoms didn't start until at least 4-5+ weeks.

I got my symptoms well before my periods - sore boobs, cramps, really hungry all the time. I even ate more than my DH (which is usually very rare).

But dont forget, everyones different. Some people dont get any at all, not even morning sickness. My M/S kicked in every day at week 5 and is still going strong.

Well since my last post here I got my BFP blood test, urine tests were neg. I'm about 5.5 weeks now since last AF.

My symptoms have been: sore breasts, increased appetite, minor cramping until day after BFP received and minor m/s. I have been pretty lucky so far with m/s as I have had problems with stomach bugs a lot and have vomited so much I needed an injection to stop it! Seems geing pg has fixed that for a while!

As for symptoms so far, bb's aren't sore or bigger, but:
* felt twinges on my RHS (especially 7DPO)
* wrotten headache (think 7DPO)
* few dizzy spells (9DPO @ night & 10DPO in morning)
* felt hot/flushed (think 7DPO & 10DPO & 11DPO)
* have had strange sensations on RHS (10DPO & 11DPO)
& especially at night, tight little sore feeling on RHS
when roll over in bed or get up quickly out of bed
* some sensations on LHS & bloating (12DPO & 13DPO)

You can get symptoms b4 AF, then again some don't. Got my fingers crossed for u.

This is my 3rd pregnancy, but the first that has made it this far.

My first trimester symptoms have consisted of:
* Morning sickness (the all day type)
* Extreme fatigue
* Really sore and enlarged bbs
* Nausea

I have been for my first round of test, everthing was o.k except that I had an iron deficency. So I am now on iron and folic acid tablets.

I was wondering however, when does the sore bbs stop???

Well I thought I'd escaped m/s until yesterday. Threw up twice at work and have today off - have been quite yukky today.

And I thought being at 9 weeks I was in the clear - hope I get better soon.

Oh yeah Sarah - I hate the sore breasts big time!

Am into my 9th week and the only bodily symptons have been enlarged swollen boobs, darker nipples and in the past 2 days a slight cramping to the right side of my abdoman. Is this normal to be isolated to one side???

My DP loves the new swollen bb however they are not small by any means...always been a 12C - DD now I've gone to E...he loves them....MEN!!!
Is anyone getting neck shoulder pain from the extra weight they are lumping around on their chest!!!

My grandmother has advised me to steer clear of citrus fruits!! Why I have no idea, is there reason for this at all?

I'm 9 weeks and so far so good. Only symptoms are sensitive nipples, constant trips to the toilet and extreme tiredness (which could be attributed to the 4 times I am waking up during the night to go to the loo), and a bit of a sore back. If this is as bad as it gets though, who's complaining.

I think I have managed to have everything on the list so far and I am only 8 weeks, hope it gets better as I go along :D

I'm just 5wks and the only symptoms i have so far is af type cramping. and the very very slightest nausea. this is my first pregnancy and i'm so scared that something awfu might happen to the baby. I just feels so strange to think that I'm pregnant I don't even feel pregnant I sort of wish i could skip all this and just start at 12 wks so at least i could have an u/s and see the baby .

You are normal. I bet everyone who is pregnant for the firet time has the same fears as you. Symptoms in pregnancy vary a lot between women so there is no real "normal". If nausea and/or vomiting do become a problem try taking ginger. You can make ginger tea, ginger beer, you can even just eat small amounts of fresh ginger. If you buy ginger beer from the shop just have a look what else is in it, they often have lots of sugar.

thanks alan it's amazing how much everyones symptoms vary i've learnt alot from ready this thread i know that i should'nt worry so much cause it can't be good for the baby but i just so badly want everything to work well and i just want my baby to be healty and happy
