Unhappy Prior M/C and already spotting :(

Hi everyone, I am five weeks today and noticed clear/light pink when I wiped. I also had this with my first pregnancy on and off from 5-10 weeks (which was lost due to a blighted ovum). I am really scared that this one isn't going to stick. I have heard that some spotting is normal, but it's hard to tell yourself that when you've been through a bad deal before. Does anyone know what causes this? And has anyone had this happen after a miscarriage and had a healthy baby? What are my chances of having a successful pregnancy? I really don't think I can go through it again. I need some reassurance to ease my mind. I was so excited at first but now I am really bummed out. Help, please.

Chrystal, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this hard time. I can definitely understand the tremendous stress you are going through because I had a similar episode in my 7 weeks of pregnancy. To cut my story short, my spotting (which was brown to red) was caused by my baby's sac growing and pressing on a small blood vessel. Apparently, this is VERY common early in the first trimester. I went through a hard time when I experienced spotting. One good thing though, you are not passing clots, and you mentioned that you are spotting, and not bleeding. So, it sounds like your bub's doing okay, but it's probably the growing sac pressing on blood vessels that caused the bleeding. By the way, are you having any pain or how long has your spotting been going on for? Try staying in bed until the spotting stops. When you are in bed, raise both of your feet up with a pillow. Also, feel free to ring your doctor and let him/her know about this and maybe they could book you for a scan to detect the reason for spotting. In the mean time, i keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Try to get some rest, and I am sure everything will be fine! Keep us posted on how everything goes! Take care, hon.

Thanks for your concern Carmen. I am not having any pains. I spotted a couple of days before my period should have started (implantation?). Then nothing for week until today. It (color on tp) was only there the one time i went to the bathroom, completely gone now. It's definetly not much, but cause for concern. I am going to call the doc and get my first appt. I was just going to wait a week or so because I am so early. I will try to get lots of rest and I will keep ya'll posted.

Chrystal- Im so sorry for your loss hun, and i know how hard it is too. I had a missed mc last year and when pg with Izzy at 6 weeks I had some dark spotting for 3 days that terrified me too. I went to my gp - and he referred me for an ultrasound and all was fine. I agree with Carmen - hard as it is, try to relax, keep your feet up and see your dr asap.
Huge sticky vibes to you - good luck.

There's every chance that this is nothing major, Chrystal, it's often said that bleeding can be common in early pregnancy. Scary though once you've experienced a m/c and I know how that feels so it is a good idea to rest up and to book a doctor's appointment for as soon as possible. My fingers are crossed for you and I'm wishing you lots and lots of I hope all goes well for you!!

Hi Chrystal, you poor thing, I know exactly what you're going through! This is my third preg and i've had bleeding/spotting at some stage during all three.

Ist prg I had spotting from 4 weeks on and off until about 12 weeks, then had a few bleeds in the second and third tri's. No cause was ever found.

My second prg (my angel) I had no spotting until 12 weeks when it was discovered I'd had a missed m/c at about 7.5 weeks.

This prg I had some spotting at 9 weeks and believe me when I say I felt like my world was falling down around me when it happened. Especially after going through IVF to concieve this time.

BUT a scan on the day showed everything was fine, I am now almost 24 weeks and have had no more spotting so far (). My FS thinks the bleeding was coming from my cervix.

DH & I have decided during this prg that because of my history of bleeding during prg, we will not be DTD. I think a lot of the bleeding in my first prg was because of this as it usually followed DTD.

SO - yes, it is totally possible and more than likely that your pregnancy will continue and you'll have a healthy baby!

    HI Chystal,

I too have had a miscarriage followed by this pregnancy in which I bled from week 5 to about week 9.

I was terrified but as it turns out everything is now fine - bubs is happy and healthy. Mine was a sub-chorionic haemorage which is not that common.

After getting it all checked out medically (and being told it could go either way - miscarriage or healthy pregnancy) I decided I could not control the outcome and stopped worrying.

Hi Crystal good luckThis is a very stressful time, try to rest if you have more spotting and your DH will hate me but avoid DTD. I have had 5 MC at different stages of prg and I also have 3 children, I have had bleeding first trim mainly, like Sophia due to Sub Chronic hem. Maybe an early ultrasound would be a good idea at least you will know what is going on. Then for instance if it is a hem you can modify your lifestyle. I hope everything works out well. Loads of bubby sticky wishes coming your way.
