problem sleeping on back at 11 weeks?? Help please...

    Hi,

Haven't posted on here for a while... almost afraid to say the words "I'm pregnant" really, but I've just passed 11 weeks. Last night I was sleeping on my back when I woke up with bad pins and needles in my legs. There was nothing that I could think of that could have blocked blood flow to my legs - except if my uterus has come out of the pelvic area a little early - is that possible? My waist is already 5 inches thicker than before I got pregnant, I really can't see how that can't be my baby yet. I haven't gained much weight since getting pregnant, I still only weigh something like 53 kg. But could I have been experiencing blocked blood flow to my legs because of my growing uterus?

I have PCOS, but am healthy weight and have low (at the lower end of normal - have been told if it was any lower, I would have probs) blood pressure - which has caused a few problems due to decreased blood flow (only after risk events like surgery and donating blood) in the past, but not many. Generally I don't have any probs with it during normal daily activities.

What's going on??? Please help!! Thanks.

I'm not sure what may have caused it - I'm I just feel down right uncomfortable when I'm flat on my back. I break the feeling by placing a pillow under one of my hips or lay on my side with a pillow to suppost my growing belly. I think my uterus has already begun to grow out from my pelvis.

I know there is a certain point during pregnancy where it's a no no to sleep flat on your back as you'd be laying on the main supply of blood (I think, don't quote me) to the baby, and that could certainly cause pins and needles.

    Hi Leesa,

Thanks. Your EDD is about the same as mine. I say "about the same", because I have never had a regular cycle before in my life, and have been given two EDDs from ultrasounds - March 26 and March 28. So I am glad to hear that you feel that your uterus has already begun to grow out from your pelvic area! I was feeling like I was going nuts - everywhere was saying it doesn't come out until 12-14 weeks - and I was going, but I am so big already?! How can this not be my baby (& growing uterus)?!! lol

All the best with everything. I think I might start looking at sleeping with pillows to help me be more comfy - I've had a hard time finding a comfy position lately - with big boobs and bigger belly!

I honestly can't even remember the last time Aunt Flo came to visit. I have my 12 week u/s on Thursday - so who knows, may get a new date then?
I think it's best to remember that no pregnancy will ever mirror a magazine / book recommendation - may be similar, but not the same. Everybody is different and our bubba's are growing differently too.
One magazine said at 11 wks the baby fetus should be 7 cms in length! Although the u/s measured it which gave us an estimated time of 11wks based on the measuresment of 4.3cms! Bizarre!

Yeah, I am pretty sure I can feel my uterus in my belly, even though supposedly it is not supposed to have left the pelvic area yet. I have been able to feel something firm there for about 4 or so days.

All the best for your ultrasound tomorrow!
