    Running in early pg?

So, it is not like I am a hardcore exerciser or anything!! But I have been running about once a week for a while - just under 4K, but really slowly (cos that's just how I run!) and then a couple of weeks ago upped it to twice a week as my brother was going to come running with me on a week night.

I know pretty much everywhere says jogging is fine in preg as long as you take it easy and listen to your body, although I did uncover one study back in 2007 I think which said it could increase chances of mc (although there was also some criticism about the credibility of the study.)

In my mind I think - if you are not meant to get overheated (avoid hot baths etc), then surely this should apply to running, cos I always come home with a red face and hot and sweaty etc despite hardly gunning it.

So I'm tempted to quit, and walk instead. But I really want to be as fit as I can be for this pregnancy and birth - I felt quite unfit with ds2 and I didn't particularly like my birth experience with him (which may have had nothing to do with that but somehow is linked in my mind, also in dh's mind.)

Also I feel bad about fobbing off my 2 separate running-buddies with lame excuses about why I can't run anymore (not that this will influence my decision of course)

Anyway, I know what google says about it, but what would you do?

if you are doing it already, it should be ok but do listen to your body. My trainer told me I wouldn't have to change a thing until I got to 2nd trimester and I train relatively hard. Most sessions, I get my HR to 90% of my maximum and when pregnant I was reaching 80% (approx HR of 165). My GP also told me the same thing. That I didn't need to change a thing.

Having said that, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then don't.

My ob said I could do anything I wanted so long as it wasn't uncomfortable - I think it was in the second tri I had thisconversation though....

With DD I had a PT and we continued as usual, it lasted a few weeks, then MS hit and then we just stepped it down a little. I still came home from the gym red faced but thats just me... I never pushed myself the way I use to before I got pregnant.

This time round though, thats another story already, I barely have enough energy to last the date let a lone going to the gym.

Go with your gut feeling and what your body is telling you.

    Congrats on the bubba too

Just check with you OB or midwife, I was told after my first MC to slow down with my running and PT then I suffered another MC and was told to stop completely... just getting into pregnancy pilates now but that was only because my OB gave me the all clear to do so...

if you have had no difficulties I would say you are fine to continue... but I would still double check...

Thanks girls! I haven't entirely stopped yet - things have lapsed with one of my running buddies for a while, and with the other I went out for a run, but walked more than usual with some lame excuses.

I have had an early mc and a couple of chem pregs (but nothing to do with exercise of course), but I don't know if this has anything to do with why I feel a bit uneasy about it.

I think it might just be that I didn't run with my first 2, so it feels somehow wrong to do it with my 3rd? Doesn't make much sense I guess. My second running buddy is not due to run with me for another week and a half so I have some time to get my story straight haha.
