Is it safe to have your Hair Coloured

    Hi,

I am 5 weeks pregnany and I am needing information on if it is safe to colour your hair. I don't do it very often maybe every 3 months. But of course hair is overdue for some attention.

Wanting to know if I should wait until I am past 12 weeks or if a semi permanent is safe.

    Thanks

I'd like to know this also. My hair looks awful at the moment, and I have a DIY hair colouring kit that stares at me every time I open the doors to my linen cupboard.

At this stage, I think I'm going to wait until 2nd trimester to use it.

i've googled this curly q all over and got conflicting answers. all i can say is what a hairdresser classmate of mine is doing - not doing her hair as she is pg with her miracle bub - she's happy to just put up with regrowth. as am i, despite my greys! i'm just thinking less chemical load on the system has got to be good

in the end, you gotta do what you personally think is best.

If youre going to do it, wait until youre in second trimester.

    Thanks for the replys.

I think I might just make do with a trim and wait till the second trimester.

From what I have read hair colour is perfectly safe to use during pregnancy as long as its not peroxide. I also asked a widwife who confirmed its fine. Ive been dying my hair every month since Ive been up the duff and nothing has happened yet that I know of

My OB told me not to in the first trimester because all the chemicals may affect the growing bub, but 2nd and 3rd tri he is more relaxed about it. Pity he told me this yesterday, I got my hair coloured when I was about 8 weeks. Oh well, I think most of the chemicals they use now are pretty safe!

there are soooo many threads on this.

hair colour is fine, just beware that it may react differently with ur skin and scalp when ur pregnant. also the fumes can make u a little sick..

i would rather do a home job and sit outside while someone did it. just my preferance atm.

    HTH... btw im a hairdresser

i didnt know weather this was safe or not so for my own piece of mind i waited until I was about 12 weeks. I friend is a hairdresser and didnt say anything about me colouring my hair. I guess it comes to personel choice and what feels right for you.

I read in a pregnancy/parenting magazine that it's fine! as long as you aren't doing it all the time..... only when you really need to.

Also, wait til 2nd trimester..... I did

I just remembered when i coloured my hair when pregnant with DD i found it didn't come out the colour it was suppose to and it also washed out pretty quick. I've heard this can happen a lot as your hormones change your hair and how it reacts to the dye.

Ive coloured my hair plenty of times throughout all my pregnancies and never had any trouble. The colourant isnt a worry being pregnant, its the fumes making you dizzy or sick. But I always pick a day where they arent as busy so I can sit by the door.
