I have just seen my GP this morning to get bloods and this afternoon I have started getting sharp cramping pains very low on my left side.
I am worried that it might be an ectopic pregnancy or something like that and I am not sure what to do about it.
The pains started as a niggle but have gotten noticeably stronger over the last few hours.
I am booked in to see my GP again on Friday morning to get the results. I am not exactly sure how far along I am - but a pregnancy app on my phone has told me I am 4 weeks 5 days (not sure of accuracy).
Should I be holding off and taking note of what happens until my next appointment or doing something else like going to the ER?
The pain isn't crippling but its definitely enough to take my attention away from everything else.
Could it be wind?? I sometimes get really sharp pains (and not pregnant) when I need to go to the loo really badly and am feeling a bit constipated.
I would think that if you're really worried about it, the only thing that will alleviate your concerns is to see the GP again, are they still open tonight? Even if it's a different doctor, maybe they will have some advice or suggestions. Otherwise make an appointment first thing in the AM if it is still bad. The reality is, that no amount of research of comments from people will totally take away the worry, and only you know how the pain feels. As you already have an appointment booked for friday you could wait until then, if you think you won't stress yourself too much.
I think I'm happy to monitor it and see how it goes overnight - I was just worried there might some rule that you go to the ER if you have pain on one side like that and wasn't sure if I should be taking action instead of waiting it out.
It would be funny if it ended up being wind - I'm sure DF wouldn't be surprised wouldn't it have passed by now? It's been a few hours.
maybe it would have passed, usually if I have wind it's pretty strong pains, and I have to get up and move, and then go to the loo fairly quickly - but it can be a scary pain sometimes and quite sharp.
Maybe if it gets worse tonight you could call nurses on call and see what they say.
I've had sharp pains on my right side (the side I ovulated on) since about 4 weeks. The first pain I was conscious of was one night lifting my daughter out of the bath and felt like someone had plunged a sword into me, then I started getting them when I wasn't stretching or lifting at all. They have varied between a sharp, "that's not nice" pain to a crippling take your breath away pain. I too was worried about ectopic having had one previously in my right tube, but was told that sometimes the corpus luteum can give you that kind of pain. If that's what it is for you, the severity and regularity of the pains will ease the further along you get until the placenta kicks in and takes over.
Ash, I'm with Lulu. I had similar pains on my right side in early pregnancy and immediately thought ectopic. Turned out to be the corpus luteum cyst around my right ovary, possibly also combined with the uterus starting to stretch.
If you're concerned definitely chat to a doctor though. Take care.
I had a very early scan at just under six weeks, as we were heading overseas and I was freaking out at the thought of being in a foreign country with a medical emergency! I had mentioned it to my GP and she referred me immediately, to put my mind at ease.
See you how feel later tonight and tomorrow morning, and rest as much as you can between now and then. Stay away from Dr Google
I have been having shots of pregnyl twice weekly so my fertility specialist was almost positive that it was the corpus luteum rupturing that was giving me the grief - apparently the pregnyl really exacerbates the condition. I was also told that 4 weeks was really much too early to be feeling an ectopic (from memory I didn't have pain with my ectopic until I was closer to 8 weeks). I then had a routine scan at 7 weeks which confirmed bubs was where he should be.
If you're still anxious about it maybe you can get an early scan, although at this stage you might need to have an internal one.
All good for now - GP said to continue monitoring the pain (which wasn't there at all today) and if it does get worse to either see her again ASAP to get in for a scan or head down to the ER if it's a weekend or whatever. Better to be safe than sorry
She said to try some extra fibre in my diet to make sure everything is moving along nicely lol - and to come back if the pain lingers but doesn't really get any worse early next week.
