    So hungry all the time

I am 5 wk and so hungry, doesnt' matter how much I eat I still feel hungry, I can hear my stomach rumbling for more food all the time. I just crave all foods sweet, salty, sour and spicy. If I don't eat I get an ill feeling, when I eat it goes.

I am worried that I am going to put on alot of weight and have problems. The last two pregnancies, I put on about 22kg each time, and thats with losing a couple of kilos in the 1st trimester as I wasn't hungry and only ate fruit.

Has anyone else had hunger like this? Sould I be worried? Any advice?

I was the same Jemima, and boy you should have seen me during pg no 2 when I was bfing as well! I ate enough for a whole army LOL!

I don't think it's anything to worry about, it's probably just a sign that you need more calories to cope with growing a fetus and running around after older kids as well. Did you lost the weight easily after your other pgs? I know my weight fell off when bfing. If you lost the weight easily, I wouldn't worry at all. If you didn't, I still wouldn't worry about it yet. Your body is telling you something and the best thing you can do is listen. Maybe once you further into the pg if you have put on a lot of weight, you can look at changing the types of foods you eat. But for now I would go with the flow.

I would have given anything to be hungry in the first trimester! Actually, I'll correct that.. to have an appetite - I too felt sick if I didn't eat, but couldn't bear the thought of eating! heh.

I agree - your body is telling you what it needs, I'd go with it too - it should settle down. Altho, my appetite is raging these days LOL (but I'm breastfeeding at the same time.. so have to eat for 3!!)

My morning sickness doesn't actually kick in until around week 6.. so make the most of feeling well enough to eat oh - and congratulations! Perhaps this one is a different gender, hence the difference in appetite (I was sicker this time around.. and it's a girl!)

    Hi Jemima

Yep Im feeling like that as well and worried about putting on the weight. I didn't put alot of weight on with my boys and don't remember being hungry all the time.

I also feel hungry all the time which makes me feel sick. When im eating i feel better but then i feel sick again like im too full or something?!! Im just trying to eat well ( weetbix for breaky even though i don't feel like it and snack on fruit or something) although i am a bit slacker than with my other pregnancies. Im also doing more walking an d running around after the boys is like exercise anyway!

    Hope you feel better soon.

I'd say eat what you want, but just be reasonable. Balance. If all you're eating is chips and lollies, I'm not sure that's great, try and balance that with fruit and vegies and bread, dairy, etc.

Having said that, that's only if you're happy to eat everything anyway. If you're feeling sick and cheeseburgers are all you feel like eating, then eat cheeseburgers. (And then sip at juice and nibble at carrot sticks) You gotta do whatever it takes to get nutrients into you.

Here's hoping your healthy appetite continues and sickness doesn't kick in!!
(this is coming from someone subsisting mostly on crystallised ginger and milk with the occasional cheeseburger, by the way )

I had hunger like this too... although with mine I needed to eat all the time to stop from feeling sick - yet at the same time I couldn't bear the thought of food. 95% of foods just made me want to puke, and the only thing that appealed was greasy salty stuff.

I say just go with what your body wants, and try to stay healthy... but don't stress too much if you can't. Once 1st tri and m/s have passed it should be a little bit easier to manage what you are putting into your mouth.
Embrace your healthy appetite whilst you have one!!

I was exactly the same as Ambah.
If your hungry then eat, just remeber everything in moderation.

I was the same very early on in both of my pregnancies. It should settle down by the end of the first trimester.

I was always hungry and if I wasn't eating I felt sick. It's such a bleh feeling but it does settle down. Just do whatever you need to keep the nausea away and don't worry about piling on weight...pregnancy is the one time in our lives that we can put on weight and it's all GOOD!

Thank you all so much, at least I am not the only one that only thing that appeals is greasy salty stuff, but being health conscience i try and have a small salad with my dinner and a piece of fruit, then I don't feel so guilty.

The sickness feeling is just starting to kick in, mainly in the middle of the night and if I don't eat all the time.

    Starving!

But I feel sick if I eat, and sick if I don't eat! its a never ending cycle!

Try to force down as much as I can though - Not throwing up just yet so I'm trying to get all the nutrients I can before I start!
