What can I take for a cold?

    Hi Ladies
I have had a horrible head cold for almost a week - Ive been pasting on the vicks & sucking away on buttermontlhs, & take pandol only when I think my head is going to explode. Between the cold & all day morning sickness Im spending my day in the toilet (my new fave room in the house) either throwing up, snezzing, blowing my nose or dribbleing!!! Is the anything I can take? Yepp I'm being a big old wuss tonight! Ilook like death warmed up - lucky for me I have a very understanding hubby!

I don't think there is anything really safe to take during pg unfortunately. Can you get a nettie pot from the health store to help get rid of the mucus in your nose? (you poor warm water from the pot through your nostrils to get rid of the mucus)

Keep your fluids up. Dont use Vicks. It has camphor in it.

Chop up an onion. Stick it in a jar. Cover with honey, preferably manuka. Leave to steep at least 24 hours. Take honey by teaspoon as needed.

Raw garlic sandwich. Sounds gross but works.

Go to the chemist and ask them for something suitable for first trimester - contrary to popular belief there are some pharmacy drugs that are completely safe and will work better than paracetamol alone for a nasty cold. This is especially the case if you feel feverish ... a fever can do harm to a developing baby but a pregnancy-approved cold and flu remedy won't, and these cold and flu tablets are designed to alleviate flu symptoms such as fever.

    Thanks Ladies,
I have stoped the vicks as I dont think it was helping & a good old serve of garlic has helped, Yes the local chemist may be a little too over cautious but thats ok I thats why I like them, but did go for a second opion today as I was getting concered about the fever side. As for fess it has always been a staple for this house due to sinus however, this week The saline smell put me in the toilet bowl for 2 hours until I could no longer smell it! Fun days!!
