    When to have scans?

    I have just found out I am about five weeks pregnant. When I made an appointment to see an ob I was told that I don't need to go in until I am 11 weeks. But I thought you were able to get scans done at around 6/7 weeks?

    The main reasons you would need an early scan are;

    1. dating- if you have an irregular cycle, or if you haven't had any sort of cycle since giving birth

    2. Prior history of miscarriage/ early bleeding

    3. Any indication of possible miscarriage- bleeding or cramping.

    Otherwise, you are considered "normal" until proven not to be, and have a scan around 12 weeks, for neuchal fold...Some people elect not to, and have only morphology (spelt wrong I know ) which is at 19-20 weeks.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy.

    I had a scan at 7 weeks, but that is due to this being an IVF baby.

    You can always request one through your GP.

    I just had a scan at 12 weeks (nuchal scan) and another at 18-19 weeks (morphology scan). They didnt tell me to get any others, but you can get one earlier for dating purposes and stuff.
