Question When to see the GP?

    Hi All
    I'm REALLY CONFUSED!! PLEASE HELP!!
DH and I found out I was pregnant at the weekend!!! Yay!!!
But now what do we do??
I have a genetic condition which might be passed on so need to have CVS tests at 11 weeks. The specialist at the hosp. said (when we saw him in Aug.) to see the GP to have the pregnancy confirmed, have a dating scan and get referred back to the hosp. once we fell pregnant. But all the info I've found say dating scans are done at 10/11 weeks and this would be too late to inform the hosp of our dates before the CVS needs to be done. I don't have a particular GP I see at my docs and to be honest I haven't had much faith in them when I've been the last couple of times (especially as the one I saw to get my original letter of referral couldn't even spell!!) so don't want to go at the 'wrong time' or waste their time with these questions so could really do with advise from you guys.
Would I need to see a GP on one appointment and then go on another occasion to have a scan? Do they have to refer me again to someone else for the scan? I don't have anyone I can ask cos we don't want anyone to know until after the CVS results at 13 weeks...just in case. I'd ring the surgery to ask but they're always so dismissive on the phone Any help would be great!
And what's all this about booking in with a hospital early on and all that? I don't want to jinx anything this early (only 4wks I think). Who would tell me about that??
    Sorry for all the questions.
I just really need someone to talk to.
    Thanks Lol

You will need to see a GP to get a referral for a dating scan, which is usually done at around 6 weeks. The next scan is done at 12 weeks, then 20 weeks. You will also need to see your GP or OB regularly for antenatal check ups. Depending on your risk level. I'm a low-risk pregnancy, so I see my GP every 4 weeks until 36 weeks, when I see the hospital every week until the birth. I also attended my hospital for a antenatal visit with the midwife at 14 weeks, and again at 20 weeks. But every hospital and dr varies with this.
You will also need to book into your hospital where you plan to give birth. It's best to ring them to find out when you'll need to do this.

Lol - First of all congratulations on your pregancy! I hope it's a H&H one. You will need to see your GP first of all to confirm your pg if you haven't already done that. They will then give you a referral to the hospital you would like to give birth at? They will ask if you would like to go Private or Public which will help you with which hospital. If you need an early scan they will also give you a referral for that too as you can't have scans without one. When you know what hospital you'll be attending you can then make your first antenatal appoitment with with and they will be able to answer any other questions you may have.

    Hope this helps a little.

Thanks both for replying. I was just really unsure when I was supposed to do stuff. Especially the first GP visit. I guess I'll need to do that next week??
    Thanks again

I too posted in the other thread, I would be going to your gp soon for a referral and getting an early scan so you know when your in week 11.
    Goodluck!
