11-13 weeks pregnant ultrasound showed sac but no baby

Went for my first ultrasound today, i am between 11-13 weeks due around 25 august. Had bloods etc done at 6 weeks and everything was fine levels were normal. No cramping etc no problems.

Ultrasound today showed a sac but nothing else, they then did internal scan and again sac but nothing else. they said that maybe the dates are wrong but I know they wouldnt be that far out as the date on scan shows my due date at 29th september and when i had my bloods done at xmas they worked out about 6 weeks pregnant which is what i thought.

Am now waiting for the weekend to pass as i now have doc on monday as ultrasound people said i might need to get bloods re done etc.

Im 22 and this is my first pregnancy...any help??

Even if your dates are out, good bloods at Xmas puts you at at least 8 weeks.

I had a dear friend who unfortunately got the same news several months ago at her 8wk scan. The term they avoid using around you is blighted ovum. She opted to wait for the pregnancy to end of its own accord.

I will hope for a hide and seek bub for you.

I hope your bub is just hiding, or it was an awkward angle or something Hun. As bending reality said, it may also be a blighted ovum but I it's not.

i'm sorry to hear about your scan. i had a similar thing happen at my 12 week scan, after i had seen the baby and heart beat at 6 weeks. when i had my 12 week scan she could see the sac but not a baby. she did an internal and did manage to find the baby, which was tiny and hardly visible at all.
sorry it's not what you wanted to hear but that is my experience. wishing you all the best.

    Angry

went to doc today, he is a moron so i dont think i will see him next time, anyway he looked at ultrasound results and said hmm there is definitly something there (well duh) and he did another pregnancy test which was positive. He then said "well what do you want to do?" how am i supposed to know he is the doctor after all so he then sent me off to the pathology place to get my bloods checked and said to have another ultrasound in a week. So over the waiting arghhh

A hpt might still be positive with a blighted ovum at this stage. It worries me that you are measuring so far behind. I hope it turns out well for you hun xox

you should not wait, you should go and see another doctor as soon as you can and get another scan.
i hope this does not distress you by reading this, but when a baby stops growing it starts shrinking at the same rate it would have grown. by 12 weeks you should be able to see the baby by ultrasound. my sac was measuring just over 8 weeks at my 12 week scan, the lady was very experienced ( i know her through my job) and did a very thorough internal, and saw the placenta was hydropic and the baby was tiny, measuring a few millimeters, with no heartbeat. you will have hcg in your system as it is produced by the placenta which is probably still there and still producing it. or as others have said it could be a blighted ovum, either way, you should get another opinion and another scan.
good luck and please let us know how you get on.

I'm so sorry to read your situation. I had a similar experience at 8w3d. Ultrasound showed a perfect little pregnancy sac, but my baby was nowhere to be seen I was absolutely devastated. My ob recommended a d&c as my body was trying so hard to maintain a pregnancy that was not viable, as I was still having really bad morning sickness due to the pregnancy hormones.

I think it's a good idea for you to have the repeat bloods and ultrasound if only to put your mind at rest and know for sure what is going on. I'm terribly sorry that you are going through this

    I hate clueless Doctors.

I noticed you are going to Logan. Can you get to Beenleigh? Dr Howse is an extremely attentive Dr who will do everything to get an answer for you and then explain your options.

He has looked after many members of my family for some time and all are both extremely picky with doctors, and very fond of him as a Dr.
