    2D vs 3D ultrasounds

    just curious as i know 2D ultrasounds are covered by medicare if refered by a GP but what about 3D or even 4D does anyone know if these are covered or in otherwords (free) ??

    2D vs 3D ultrasounds

    I had one as part of the morphology scan at 18 weeks but had to pay extra I only got the amount from the 2d scan back, it was about an extra $80 from memory.

    I think the 3D/4d are covered by medicare but only to the same extent a 2D one is - so your out-of-pocket costs are more because the 3D/4D scans cost more. I agree that about $80 back sounds right, but I know once we hit the medicare safety net, we got a fair bit more $$ back on the 4D scans. I'm pretty sure some of our scans were around $250 - give or take $20/$30. FWIW our 4D scans were fabulous (but not cheap till we hit the medicare threshold).
