    37 weeks dark brown/red discharge

Warning - gross and embarrassing question ahead sorry...

So I'm 37 weeks and this morning when I woke up I noticed quite a bit of very dark brown/red discharge. I put a liner in and it is now covered in brown. Anyway, I rang midwife and she is going to talk to OB then ring me back. I am stressing out a bit...I'm probably being paranoid but I really don't want anything to go wrong at this stage. Has anyone had anything like this? Thanks...

It sounds like it could be your 'show' - when part of the plug comes away it can look like that. When I had my show with my first baby it was just like you have described. But if you are at all concerned about it, and that it's enough to cover a liner then you did the right thing asking about it

If you know that you don't have a low lying placenta I would say it's part of your mucous plug. As Trillian said very often a show first presents like you describe.

Your very very wonderful body is letting you know that it is preparing for labour day. It's a good sign!

Keep an eye on it - I certainly had a show just like you describe with some fresh blood mixed in. About 5 days later I had my baby girl!

Good luck my love - if it continues with a large amount of fresh blood - pop up to the birth unit for an asessment.

Thanks Trillian and Inanna. I hope it is a sign that things are moving in the right direction, but I haven't had any Braxton Hicks or anything...I really hope the baby is okay.

Definitely sounds like your show. Now is time to relax and let your body do it's work! Good luck!

Also sounds to me like your show I lost my plug (had my show) the day I went into labour.
Remember though that you can lose your plug over a number of weeks, and your body can replace the plug thats lost if it needs to.

I hope that its something for you though! Good luck with it all!

Sweetheart is your baby moving well? If so, the chances are that this is your show. Its always a little scary as this is new. However, remember that you need to trust. Trust your body & your baby. They know how to do this dance together. Meditate a while and talk to your baby and your body.

This is exciting! It is the aged old wise way - your body is preparing to birth your baby!

I had a call back from the midwife, she said it isn't anything to be concerned about - I've got an appointment tomorrow anyway so I'll wait until then. The baby is moving so I will try to relax. Thank you so much for the lovely messages.

I also think it's your show. Try not to worry hun. At 37 weeks your baby is fully formed and can be birthed now without any problems.

I know the feeling! All through my first pg I kept reading about 'the show' and that it meant the baby would be born anything from that day to a week later and I thought I was prepared for it but when I saw it on my knickers I was so scared because it meant that it was all very real, that the baby was going to come soon (the next day in fact) but I was also calm kwim? I hope that your appointment goes well tomorrow and that you are soon holding your wee babe

Thanks again. Had appointment today but didn't find out whether bleeding was 'show' or not. Today the bleeding has been slightly heavier, still dark brown. Does it need to be actual mucous to be the plug? I've had other bleeding throughout my pregnancy relating to separation of the placenta, but I am really hoping that this is a sign that labour is on the way. Has anyone had a 'show' where the bleeding lasts more than a day?

    Hey Lou

I haven't responded in our thread yet but wanted to share with you, when I had my show it was mucusy with fresh blood in it and when I went to the toilet it took about 10 - 15 wipes iykwim.

Given your history I am not so sure that this is your show actually but hey its different for everybody isn't it I kind of hope it is though

    All the best hun
