Unhappy 6 weeks pregnant and bleeding a little

Hi guys, hoping to get a little advice and maybe reassurance. TMI warning!

I am six weeks pregnant after a long ttc journey, and so excited.

Last Friday, I had a tiny amount of brown spotting, literally tiny. Phoned my doctor, who said to rest all weekend. Which I did, no more spotting on Saturday.

Then Sunday, after having sex, more spotting - about half a teaspoon of fresh red blood. Then another half a teasponn yesterday, and a little more today.

Called the doc again, who basically said, if you are going to miscarry it'll happen whatever you do, just try to stay calm.

So I'm wondering, has anyone else experienced anyhting like this and been okay? I'm so worried - still 'feel' pregnant, but am just so nervous, don't understand why I"m bleeding

Can anyone help with a reason or a good news story?

I had this with DD2 and it lasted for about a week and a half. I went to the GP who ordered some blood tests and ultrasounds - the bloods confirmed that HCG levels were rising (which is what you want) and the u/s confirmed there was a blob with a heartbeat. I had 2 blood tests and 2 ultrasounds a week apart for comparison. In the end everything was fine and there was no real explanation for the bleeding. I was told to rest and take it easy so we didn't DTD until things settled down and I didn't do any exercise other than walking.

    Hi Jellyblush,

I had a difficult start to my pregnancy - very heavy bleeding (like a heavy period) about the time AF was due but was notified by my IVF clinic that I was indeed pregnant with low progesterone. Another blood test a week later showed the pregnancy was viable. I had slight bleeding again a few weeks later but was advised by my doctor that everything was fine and was probably caused by what I had suspected - having sex! Your cervix becomes soft and blood vessels are more engorged so light bleeding can occur. I know of two friends that this has also happened to. Just take it easy and try not to worry even though I know how hard that can be. The main advice is if the bleeding continues and there is accompanying pain then consult your doctor.

    Good luck.

    Hi Jellyblush,
I had bleeding accompanied by extreme cramping for 2 days at about 6 wks. I was in tears the whole time cause I thought I was losing our precious gift.
I spoke to my doc who told me to relax, no DTD & see how it goes.
Good thing is I am now 14wks & all is going smoothly.
I had both brownish & then fresh red blood.
Hard to stay calm & not worry but know that there are plenty of people on here who have been through the same thing & they came out the other side with a baby.
    Best Wishes
    Mel

You guys are wonderful. All of your stories make me feel better, and I'm so pleased it all turned out well for you.

I've been off for a blood test and will get another in 2 days time. All I can do between now and then is rest I suppose, and cross my fingers.

    Thanks again

I too had this at the 6week mark. Mine also started after DTD. We refrained then until the 12 wk mark just to be safe (I think more for our peace of mind). Thinking of you, and rest up.

Hi ladies - well I am back with my update, my bloods were inconclusive so am back to square one.

    Levels on Tuesday 3319
    Levels on Thursday 5170

The midwife said she'd be happier if the levels had actually doubled - so it could still go either way - but as they are still rising I'm not ruled out yet.

I am set to have a scan on Monday, hopeful that will be more conclusive. Come on little bubs hang in there!!!

I am supposed to fly interstate on Saturday overnight to see a sick family member.... not sure whether to go (supposed to be on bed rest) or not go (would be upsetting for my family if I didn't).

Gosh this is a roller coaster... thanks again for all your kind words...

Just some more support but my levels never actually doubled either. How stressful would the flight be? How would your family react if you said the Dr has ordered you to not fly for medical reasons?

Fingers crossed for you Jellyblush! My scan picked up an amniotic sack at 5weeks after my first bleed so hopefully your scan on Monday should be conclusive. Wish you didn't have to wait all weekend for it!

Thank you both, Nai, you are right - I'll have to explain to the family. I'd never forgive myself if I rushed around and the bleeding got heavier.

Jellyblush - I am so sorry you are going through this, it is just horrible. I am in a similar situation. I am 5W2D pregnant and my HCG is around 2300 (just tested today) and I have been having spotting/light bleeding since Saturday the 20th. At first I thought it was implantation bleeding but the day I got my BFP I had bright red blood. I am freaking as my last cycle was a miscarriage. My Dr said that there could be 100 reasons why I am bleeding and while bleeding in pregnancy isn't something they like to see, I could just be one of those odd people that bleed. She said that the HCG increasing means that everything is progressing as normal and unless the bleeding gets any worse then I just need to wait it out. Originally I thought that when my HCG increased enough to tell my body "yes you are really pregnant" then the bleeding would stop. But no, it is still happening.

I understand how stressful this can be for you and it is horrible how you have no definitive answers. But I have a positive story for you - my friends sister had bleeding right through her pregnancy and at times the bleeding was very heavy period like and has a gorgeous 8 year old DD to show for it. She didn't bleed with her other pregnancies, it was just this one.

Take care of yourself and I hope your scan date comes very very quickly for you. xx

    Hi Jellyblush

    Congratulations on your pregnancy
What your doc has said is so true - if you're going to m/c its going to happen whatever you do, so try and relax (easier said than done i do realise)
i had bleeding with this pregnancy, very similar to what you're describing up until 15/16 weeks. Bub is fine.. everything is fine!

When i had a m/c in jan this year there was no mistaking it... what youre describing sounds NOTHING like what i experienced during this time.
I hope you're feeling better and the bleeding has stopped, wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy

With your numbers at that level they should be able to see something. i would ask to have a scan early as if your numbers are low or not doubelling than it could also imply an ectopic and i would not like to be flying with one, no matter the distance.

I hope i am wrong and that everything works out for you GL

    Hi Jellybush

I had a miscarriage about a year and a half ago at 5.5 weeks, I had spotting but what I really noticed was I just didn't 'feel' pregnant anymore.

I'm pregnant again now, baby due in 4 weeks!. I had bleeding at exactly the same time as the miscarriage so I was really worried, but I 'felt' pregnant so that was the slight thing that was reasurring me.
Some women can have bleeding throughout, mine stopped after a few days, but I have had cramps throughout, but baby seems happy and healthy.

Good luck, I hope everything goes well for you

Thank you everyone, scan on monday is all booked so I guess I will know then for sure.

I certainly still feel pregnant judging by the way i keep modding off and the churny feeling in my stomach... so hopefully that's a good sign.

I was also thinking, maybe my hcg levels didnt double because i didn't have the blood taken 48 hours apart - was 5.00pm for the first test, and 11am for the second test..but then maybe i am just clutching at straws there.

    Sigh. must try to relax!

Thanks again for sharing your stories and for your kind words

    Hi ladies,

I thought I'd pop in with an update since you were all kind enough to give me your time when I was concerned.

The doctor confirmed today that my pregnancy is ectopic. The ultrasound showed the baby with a strong heartbeat and dating perfectly, just in the wrong spot.

They have confirmed that all of one tube will be removed, and quite likely also the other one. In this case, it will be IVF as our only option.

Ladies - most bleeding is harmless, but if you feel anything is wrong please go to the doctor straight away! If I'd waited a few more days even the effects would have been devastating for me and bubs.

    Thanks for your support.
