Air in vagina during sex

Hi folks,

Got a slightly graphic one for ya. My wife, who is 13 weeks along, and I were having sex this morning and during the act she released a fair amount of air from her vagina. Now I have heard and read that blowing air into her is dangerous during oral sex and can cause embolisms, but can the same be said for this mornings situation?

Has anyone else had these "farts" occur?

Is this normal? Is this dangerous for the pregnancy?

Ok, I'm no medical expert or anything, but an embolism? I haven't heard that before and can't see it as being physically possible? The air would somehow have to make it into her bloodstream and unless you used some sort of non-biological implement (an industrial strength vacuum cleaner on reverse perhaps?) I don't think the air would make it that far.
The release of air from the vagina can happen in some positions... Can't really remember if it's happened to me before, but I wouldn't think anything of it if it did.
I'm sure everything is just fine with the pregnancy. I've always been told that intercourse is safe for most people during pregnancy - the only reason I'd worry was if there was any bleeding.

I've never heard any of those "facts" re embolisms. I don't think that is true at all.

I don't think there is any danger involved here.

Nah, its usually the position you are in and I wouldn't think it would hurt baby..

I have heard not to actually blow air up there as it can be dangerous... but I dont know if thats a myth.

However its very common for air to get pushed in there during intercourse/certain positions, so I don't think there's anything to worry about there.

I heard it can be dangerous after birth. I once read a story, where the husband went down on his wife and blew some air, she died. So it must be what you are talking about, jpleaner. But it shouldn't be a problem while she is pregnant. Of course I don't have medical expertise, doubt check my information.

I certainly wouldn't think that in your situation you would have any problems... There are many positions where you can have this happen and the 'air' is not a problem during pg, otherwise they would tell you to abstain from sex altogether! you will find this will happen probably frequently in the remainder of your sex life, and it is quite normal, as the PP have said

Re: the embolism, that poor woman has become an urban legend! The only way blowing air into the vagina could cause embolism and death is if you were less than a week out from a c-section and she still had a significantly unhealed wound inside her uterus.

FWIW many women get gas in their uterus (methane) after a c-section, due to post-operative infection and THAT could well have been the cause of the poor woman's demise, rather than the air-blowing sexual practice.

OP as others have said, air being sucked into and expelled from the vagina is usually down to position and is harmless (apart from making you blush maybe).
