Question Another stupid pg syptom? Eyes?

    Just thought I would ask...

has anyone had really sore eyes during pregnancy? I am having a bit of trouble focusing also... I tried to read the news paper today but couldn't even look at it my eyes didn't like reading it.

sore tired and dry all the way here!

i've done a bit of reading - the focus thing is from having the relaxin in your system - it doesn't ONLY impact the muscles baby needs to stretch - messes with all of them!

Not long after I first fell pregnant I went to my optomotrist for a check-up (I wear glasses), and she said that I shouldn't come back until after I'd had the baby and finished breastfeeding as the hormones of pregnancy can change your prescription slightly - so I guess pregnancy must (or can) affect your eyes.

Yep, pg can definitely affect your eyes, it's the relaxin. Not much you can do I don't think, except use drops for the dryness.

My eyes changed shortly after conception. I had such bad eyestrain headaches that I simply had to get new glasses. The optometrist suggested I wait, but as I was becoming completely non-functional I simply had to get them done then. My argument was that with bub due in January, our health cover would reset just before (or after, in reality!) he was born and if my eyes changed again I'd just come back. I also kept the old frames, just in case. So far I haven't needed to go back yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time before I do. The great thing was that my eye sight actually improved for the first time in the last ten years!

I'm told it's normal and can be due to the hormones that relax your muscles also working on the eye muscles.

Yep i had exactly the same prob! and was told by the optomertrist not to worry as eye probs were common during pregnancy - than once bub was popped out - all seemed to go back to normal!

Hi Tanya, i used to get this feeling like i had shooting stars coming out of my eyes...i was at work one day and my vision completely went on me so i went staright to the dr's (once i could see again) and apparently it is common in pregnancy.

    Ok.... good

I am having trouble reading the PC, I have to sort of look at it from the side.
It's funny cause another thing that I can now put my finger on before I knew I was pg was sore hips! It's gone now, but that was also probably from the relaxin...

Thanx for the replies... another I am not sure I can live with! I wonder if eye exercises will help?

Same here, I went to renew my license when I was prg with DD and almost failed the eye sight test

I was going to rush off to get glasses asap until a friend at work told me to wait until after bub was born. Sure enough, my perfect vision returned.

    Very strange.
