I have the flu and now it has turned into a very painful bout of sinusitis and my head, eyes and ears feel like they are going to explode. I have just come back from the Drs and he prescribed Augmentin Duo Forte which is Amoxycillian.
The Dr asured me that it is safe in pregnancy but some times I just dont believe them!
That one is generally safe for pregnancy and considering you're out of the 1st trimester. If it was me, I'd only take it if I REALLY had to and after more natural treatments hadn't worked. What about acupuncture?
Hope you feel better soon, it sucks being pregnant and really sick.
Hi, I had to take Amoxycillian when I was 28 wks due to Sinusitis. As long as it is a catagory A medicine then you are fine to take take it. You can also look up the MIMS website about it to for more information.
Hope this helps. I know how bad blocked sinus is and how hard the choice is to take the meds for it, but you will be so much better off after a few days.
No worries! Only thing I get from taking it is horrible thrush... yuk. Remind me again why I want to be pregnant so bad?? hahahaha Hope u feel better soon babe xox
I know the stress about do I, don't I take certain medications. I haven't taken that one. I was diagnosed with the Swine Flu at 17 weeks and the maternity department wanted me to take Tami Flu which is an antibiotic. When I looked it up on the net it said it hadn't been conclusively studied on pregnant women. Anyhow I took it as they told me it was in my interest and the baby's. I had my scan at 20 weeks and everything seems fine.
I think with the flu, the main thing is to try and control your temperature and breathing. So if you're having problems with these areas then some treatment is probably good. The maternity department told me that the flu doesn't cross the placenta and the baby should cope well with coughing etc. It's only things like high temperature (over 38) and breathing problems which could impact.
If you want more advice on the antibiotic you could double check with the pharmacist (i found some of them to be really helpful, better than GPs on what to take when pregnant) or call your care provider.
oh you poor thing, it is really hard to be sick in pregnancy isn't it? for me personally, i think it depends on your doctor whether or not you believe them. if my doctor told me it was safe then i would believe him coz i trust him, but i know what you mean about sometimes not trusting the doctors. I think it depends on how you feel - there's no point being ridiculously sick when you have been prescribed something that is relatively ok and that will help you feel better. You're out of the first trimester now, so hopefully it should be fine. Hope you feel better son
Hi, i am 8 weeks and currently taking Amoxicillin. I was very hesitant, but after talking to 3 doctors i have decided i am comfortable taking it. Of course it's not desirable, but they all assure me it has been used many many times in pregnant women with no ill effect.
FWIF- It's Cat B.
From MIMS "Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters)."
Thanks eveyone. I have now taken 3 tabs and when I woke up this morning I was so much better then yestrday! Im glad I have taken it as my sinus infection was painfull and is still painfull. It was very hard to function and look after my nearly 2 YO DD when I was so sick.
I have just been on Penicillin for a kidney infection and my Dr told me that they are Class B, so there is no problems taking it in pregnancy, totally safe.
PLEASE DO take antibiotics when pregnanct....untreated infections can get nasty.
If I had treated mine when it was just a UTI, I wouldn't have gone through the horrible pain of the kidney infection.
I had really nasty flu's and sinus pain around week 22-27, finally gave in and went to Dr's who prescribed me amoxycillin. Of course i did as much googling and asking around as possible before taking it, and after being assured from every angle that it's ok i took the tablets for 3 days. It did clear my sinus and cough a bit, but bub didnt move at all after the first day of taking it (that's why i didnt finish the script) and only started stirring again the day after i stopped taking them.
Sorry not trying to scare you and deffinately not saying dont take them coz they did clear the sinus infection and if i had of stayed sick it could have been alot worse but thats just my own experience with it. Also might not have agreed with me and bub coz it's only about the 2nd time in my life i've taken antibiotics so that could have been an influence.
Hope your feeling better soon!!
If you are taking them you should definitely finish the course. If you don't you risk a worse infection and drug resistant bugs. It's really important to finish the course.
