I have been trying to find a Pregnancy Aqua Aerobics class here on the Gold Coast but can't find any so far....
I just rang a swim school who told me they have just started Aqua Aerobics classes as they have found an instructor to do it. So far there are 36 women who are in the class and it's a 45min class. I asked if it's for pregnant women but the lady at reception wasn't sure but she said it's heated but many pregnant women come in the pool with their babies/kids anyway so should be fine. She said just mention to the instructor when i arrive that i'm over halfway through my pregnancy.
Do you think I should go to this class? It's a general adult aqua class hence why i was a bit concerned if it's for me or not? Although out of all those women surely there are going to be a few pregnant one's perhaps aswell?
I can always just take it easy..... what do you think? It's free first night and $8 after that so pretty cheap.
I would go along and have a go - you will know what you can and cant do and if you tell the instructor they will prob make modified movements for you as well.
Yep, I would just go and tell the instructor. And if you feel like you're getting over heated or anything just take a break. I could imagine aqua aerobics would feel good and easy on the sore ligaments!
i would be abit weary about it. im not a huge fan of heated pools as it is and its not good to be in one for too long as it will change bubs temp. If u ring around some hospitals or birthing centres they usually organise the classes through them. HTH
You should be fine with it. Like the others have suggested, tell the instructor. If you're looking for some pregnant friendly exercises, pregnancy yoga is fantastic, and will help with the labour/birth as well.
I think its great Ren. I did aqua while pg with both my girls. It was just a standard class (full of old Ladies, who were way fitter than me!) but all i did is just slow it down a bit when i needed to. occasionally the instructor said to me "why dont you do this exercise like this instead..."
but just take care ...what type of pool is it? some "heated pools" just have the temp taken up a bit to take the chill off. others are actually hydrotherapy pools, extra warm for people with injuries and mobility issues. those i would be a little careful of as you dont want to overheat....
and put your water bottle on the side of the pool and drink all the way thru.
im sure your son/daughter will thank you for it later on.... he/she/she /he ???????
I've been doing Pregnancy Yoga on Saturday mornings which I love! And to be able to do this class during the week one night a week would be great aswell in addition to the yoga i'm doing.
Thanks for the advice girls. I think it's just a standard heated pool that lots of babies learn to swim in so i would imagine it wouldn't be too over heated anyway seeing as babies use it and babies get over heated easily.
I think I will go along when it starts in just over a week and talk to the instructor. Take it easy and bring a nice big bottle of water with me
Yeah, go for it Renstar!! If you start to feel just too hot or warm, sit on the side for a minute or two to cool off. It does take ALOT for your body to overheat, we are very efficient at cooling it off, and like you said, it is not a hydrotheraphy pool.
Glad that things are going well, and you are doing yoga as well. I also do Yoga some days at home and once a week in a regular yoga class with a lady who knows me well and modifies poses for me as my belly grows. Still love my running the most however!
Have fun and tell us how it goes.....does sound fun and cheap too! May I ask where is the pool you are going to? I will be on the lookout for pools to do laps when we move up in December!
I agree too hun - I did just a normal class when I was pg with Izzy and the instructor just told me which movements not to do. The pregnancy specific classes are run in the same pool so there is no difference with heat unless it is a hydro pool. Just drink up lots of water too hun! Good luck and have fun!
Just my 2 cents worth - I used to do a lot of aqua-robics and there were always pregnant women in the class - normally at least 2 or 3 from a class of 12 or so. The instructor would do modifications for the "mummys to be". They seemed to really enjoy it!
Hope it works out for you!
I went to Aqua when pg with DS at the hospital where I had him. They have a physio pool and do special classses for prenatal aqua, it was great I would highly reccommend it.
Thanks ladies.
Someone mentioned to avoid hydrotherapy pools??! I spoke to the guy who used to own the pool business where i'll be going and he said it's heated to 33 degrees and that it's a hydrotherapy pool? Is that too hot? He knows i'm pregnant and he said many pregnant women took their babies in the pool for swimming lessons anyway and were fine.
