we've got DS (2) in a maxi rider by safe n sound
it's a booster seat with a 5 point harness for 14kg+. DS is a very tall boy and big for his age so it has worked for us putting him into this. They are pretty exxxy about $459 I think, but for about $250 you can get a SnS maxi rider style booster but without the attached 5 point harness and you can buy a H harness to use with it. It is one that will still be legal with the booster seat law changes.
We have a Maxi Rider and I love it, although we'll have 3 seats to fit in our commodore in a few months so now I am thinking it is too wide
We have 2 maxi riders in our car - yes, they are wide seats. We had to buy our 5year old the hipod booster seat (same price) coz its skinnier.
I think i paid about $400ish for the two of them.....
sorry to butt in.. but what are the new law changes? i am about to buy a standard booster for DD and didnt realise there were rules or laws.
I have a Safe n Sound Guardian for Emily. It's a convertable carseat from newborn-26kg. For Nina I have the Maxi Rider. Can't fault either of them, but like the other girls have said, the Maxi Rider is a wide seat.
0 to 4 seat - we had the Safe and Sound Platinum, and loved it.
Booster seat - Safe and Sound Maxirider is what we use for DD now, along with a H harness. It is quite wide, but it is the only one that actually tethers to the car - or so I believe? Am happy to be corrected on this LOL
...the SNS hi liner booster attaches to car too - thats the one i meant to say we had, not the hipod (drrrrrrr to me).It is quite wide, but it is the only one that actually tethers to the car - or so I believe? Am happy to be corrected on this LOL
Im glad that i am not the only one that seems to love the SNS brand...
We have a sydney car and a brisbane car (Dont ask) In both i have a SNS maxirider, a SNS hi liner and a SNS delux compace..
The maxi riders are just the best but i couldnt fit in two maxi's and a baby seat so went up to the hi liner which is skinny - it looks weird but DD loves it. It does bolt in and will do her height (she is very tall) til she is out of car seats!
All three were voted by choice as the best in their category...
Im thinking Maxi $400+, Hi liner $200+
Expensive but have had them for ages now and everyone i know has one and no one has ever had a problem with them
good luck
HI just wanting to add, I have just bought the Infa Vario Max booster seat. I am using it with a H Harness, but it also anchors to your car.
I am needing to fit 3 car seats in back seat and already have a SNS Maxi Rider, so needing this as is quite slim, it also has a the headrest that can be adjusted as child grows
DS has a SNS maxi rider. This is the best on the market. For newborn, I can't think of the name but it is SNS also and retails for about $450.
My mum worked at baby bunting (baby store in melbourne) and she made sure we had the maxi rider.
I know they are expensive, but can you put a price on your childs life.
By the way, I highly recommend getting the seats professionally installed. This only costs about $30, but they install it so tightly (using a gatered buckle) that the seat doesn't move.

I must say I find using the H harness a real pain. I have been really happy with the seat though, is a nice fit and when he falls asleep he still looks comfortable.
I would like to know options other than Maxi Rider when you need 3 seats across as I can't possibly have 2 maxi riders and a baby seat it wouldn't fit and I have a commodore station wagon.
I think the new laws are good but there needs to be a increase in seats that have 5 point safety harness that are for older children. There is no way I could still have my 3.5 year old in a 0-4 car seat he is just too big. (and he is a big child just average height and weight
ditto with the H harness the excess belt is in an odd place
