    Baby bonus??

Ok so I know this new paid maternity leave is coming in on 1st Jan right, but people keep telling me baby bonus is being cancelled as of the 31st dec 2010!!
I hve looked on centerlink's website and it says nothing about it being taken away at the end of this year but I have had like 6-7 people tell Me it is, even my best friend who works for centrelink.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation???

No, this isnt right as i have already registered for my baby bonus and im due in march. you can only get one though, you cant get both. so you have to pick which one you want to get.

I think if you're getting the Materinty one you don't get the baby bonus.

    :yeahthat:

You can't have two bites of the apple as they say!

So for me, as I wouldn't get the maternity payment (cos I'm a SAHM) I'll be entitled to the baby bonus still.

Yeah I knew you could only get one or the other... I just wanted to make sure that they weren't taking the baby bonus away!
I hate feeling like I am an idiot and everyone was so insistent I was wrong.. Haha I was right!!

I don't qualify for PPL cause you had to work 10 of the 13 months before the baby's born... the Army moved us when I was 18 weeks and we had leave for 4 weeks so by the time I got back, who would have hired a 22 week pg woman who would only work for like 12 weeks? No-one... so I didn't work.. At least we still get something!

I think there would be a total uproar if they took the baby bonus away and just had the maternity payment. Simply because its not fair for other people that don't qualify, whereas there was already a maternity payment in place if you were in the right kind of industry - ITMS? My sister always gets maternity leave because she's a police officer, whereas I worked in legal for a small firm, and I never got maternity leave.

I think the family assistance office website had a page where you could see which one you are eligible for. I always find it easier to just call them and ask a person, coz wording on pages like that just confuse me even more.

I think I have to call them today.

there are no plans to scrap the baby bonus - some people that have worked and would qualify for the paid parental leave will still be better off, cash in hand, getting the baby bonus! it is a choice to apply for ppl if you qualify

the office is closed today due to public holidays, and will be getting double the volume of calls tomorrow and thursday due to early processing of payments cos of the PH next Monday. we're also running on a smaller staff over the holiday period...

I have no idea what I'm doing cause the rude cow I spoke to at fao asked me if I was stupid so I hung up in tears. My mum work at cl for 25 years and couldn't believe it when I told her. So I'm still non the wiser. Think I be going with ppl just cause im planning on going back to work and DF earns way too much for us to qualify for fam tax a or b

Kylz, you can check yourself on the c/l site sweets.....
You put in all your info, and it tells you which one is best for you!!!

I know a lot of people are still are better off with BB, but its worth a check.
If you wont get FTB a/b anyway, PPL might be the right one. Have a go at it, its quite easy babe.

Kylz, put in feedback on the website - give the approx time of the call, the number you called from, and whether you put in your customer reference number - if they accessed your file, there will be a footprint identifying the person. if they didn't, it is harder to "find" the person, but if they've called you stupid, it would be something they are keen to stamp out, so they can trace the call via the number you called from (provided everything on the system has been set up properly - can't guarantee that - i used to work for Telstra dealing with complaints like this and this is what we did - no idea if FAO are set up quite as well for that sort of thing). there are only a limited number of staff taking PPL calls at the moment, so even if they can't get THE person, there can be some pretty strong feedback sent through to the entire group about attitude etc

on another note, if your incomes are too high for FTBA and B, you will probably be better with PPL - but definitely run the estimator to check it out - you may be surprised. the estimator what tax bracket the PPL will put you into, when the baby is due (so it looks at tax brackets for two financial years and FTB entitlement in both of them)...

I did that but the whole system scareds me to death. I dont know how to calculate the income thats why she called me stupid cause i asked questions on HOW and which fin year it goes on. All i got out of her was if baby is due before june 30 2011 its the 2010/2011 one which will mean i have only worked 8 months f/t + the 18w ppl. Is that right BG? Sorry you must get so sick of being asked the same things all the time. DF income is always so diff with all the o/t he does but if I run off the standard fin year if i calculated right i think we are on between $70k & $80k combined.

Oh and I dont have a CRN yet i have never got a c/l payment before.

for ftb, it's the current fin year. if you would receive all of your ppl in this fin year then you coult all of it in your estimate. if your ppl will roll past june 30, then you only count that which you will receive in this fin year. for the six month estimate of income for eligibility (under 75k combined for six months after birth) it is from baby dob to exactly six months later. fin yrs dont enter into it

on acombined annual income of 70-80k you will qualify fir ftba for 10/11 - if you are worried about OT impacting it you can wait until tax time to claim. depending on when you plan to return to work you may quilify for bot ftba and ftbb in the 11/12 fin yr

Someone told me the baby bonus is going to increase to $10,000 instead of $5000? Is it true?
