    Baby shower questions

How many people did you invite to your baby shower?

My mum has her list of who she wants to invite (so probably basically Aunty's and cousins), my MIL has a list of a list of who she wants to invite (people that we know together) and I made a list of people I might like to invite - just through my phonebook and facebook.

My list however, has 39 people on it. Work friends, uni friends, family and family friends.

There will be overlap with all three lists. My mum and I are working on planning the baby shower this Saturday.

    I will be 37 weeks.

How many people did you invite, and is this too close to the due date? The other options were 36 or 38 weeks. I decided it had to be that week (19Feb it's being planned for) as 5th Feb is my cousin's wedding in Byron Bay (and we're all based in Brisbane and surrounds), apparently the 12th is no good coz it's on the lead up to Valentines Day (this doesn't concern me, just other people for some reason ) and 26th is the Saturday before Uni starts again (and yes, somehow I'm going to attempt uni with a 3yo and a newborn this year!)

My DH doesn't want to be daddy daycare outside with all the kids, so how would I get around that? His friend's girlfriend is coming and so the friend will be coming too (mainly to keep DH company) and will be bringing their 4yo. My sister will be coming (I hope, and will be bringing her kids (2yo & 4yo). Another friend I'm inviting has no partner (and her mum and sister are invited too, so she'll have her 6yo, 5yo and 3yo. What do I do with the kids? My mum reckons to say on the invite not to bring kids. How is that fair?

I was also thinking of having a morning baby shower, then if people wanted to stay, have a BBQ. This got shot down by DH and mum. So, what about an afternoon or evening baby shower? Do these work? (with DS, my sister was having a chocolate party in the evening and we had my baby shower combined with it... It was more her friends than mine, and I don't remember many kids being there).

What do you serve at baby showers? I actually prefer non-alcoholic champagne, but what about everyone else? What food? How long does a baby shower go for?!?!

    Confused? I am!

AARGH! The more I think about it, the more I get confused and get more questions!

    HELP!

As you know mine is next weekend and i think there is 45 attending.

My DH (scary calling him that a week out from wedding) will be going somewhere like the RSL with all the partners as they dont want to be around lol

Mine is at 11am and im hoping people will only stay a few hours and go home. Im happy for all the interstaters to stay longer but its going to be a HUGE weekend for me.

I haven't had a baby shower personally but I've been to a few. I think 37 weeks should be fine. My cousin had one at 39 weeks. All the baby showers I've been to have been lunch time or afternoon tea type things. I would probably provide some soft drinks and say BYO alcohol if you are ok with others drinking. Food - depending on the time but for lunch or dinner, a bbq or for afternoon tea, a mixture of sweet and savoury snacks such as muffins, biscuits, fruit. I'm not sure how many people were invited but there were about 15-20 women at each. My SIL had partners invited and the party split in two with women outside & men inside watching sport lol.

Re the kids - maybe you could make some games that get them involved such as drawing pics of the baby or colour in's that are baby related. With so many people coming that have kids I agree it would be unfair to say no kids especially when you have one yourself already! There's been kids at all the baby showers I've been to.
