Well basically 50th is 'normal' or 'average' anything higher is bigger and anything lower is smaller. My baby is in the 40th and she is said to be 2 days behind in growth.
Hi all
Can anyone clarify for me what it means if your baby is measuring in the 70th percentile?
Thanks!
Well basically 50th is 'normal' or 'average' anything higher is bigger and anything lower is smaller. My baby is in the 40th and she is said to be 2 days behind in growth.
Well it means that 30% of babies at that gestational age are bigger than your baby and 69% of babies at that gestational age are smaller than your baby. Your baby is above 'average' size atm, but average is just that and not an indication of the size your baby will be at birth
It also means ur baby is the perfect size for him or her and u certainly shouldn't worry about it at all! lol
Thanks ladies.
Jas - yes you're right! If size is a good indicator of health, then it's very reassuring. Still can't help but stress until I'm physically holding bubs. But I guess that's normal??
but then they are born and there are lots of moments I hold my breath and would love to wrap my kids in cotton wool lol Definitely normal soulful!
You know what if you see my sig details Noah was 3weeks early (induced) and he was 9lbs 4.5 and Spence 10lbs 5oz (and I'm not saying this to bignote myself just to say it can be done etc) Spence was drug free, tear free and his face was completely bruised purple cause he was born so fast amazing labour (Noah was a few hrs pushing thatnks to being on my back with an epidural) anyway my point I think I'd almost be happier with the 10lbs than a 5lbs (the weight helps them fly out lol)
I truly don't think size matters I am sure 5lbs hurts! and really often your heavy babies are also long so the weight is distributed over the length and also its really the head you have to get out and then the body just comes usually on the next push and kind just slips out and my 10lbs 5oz baby I'm pretty sure his head circ. is right on the 50th percentile where you could get a smaller baby with a bigger head.
Really this is a long way of saying don't worry you are growing your baby perfectly and you will do an amazing job of birthing him or her!!!!
Thanks Jas - very reassuring words!!
Ha those figures sometimes seem designed just to cause worry!
When I was a bubs I was 90th percentile height, and so low I was OFF the chart in weight. Poor mum didn't know what to do, they were telling her I needed to be tube fed at 10 months. Pff I'm perfectly healthy now!
