    Blankets & Wraps

I am just wondering how many blankets, wraps to buy? There are soo many to choose from. Polar Fleece, Thermal, Flanalette, Muslins. UGH!

I am thinking fleece for the cot at night. What do people recommend for the pram? I have also heard some Muslins are too small so get a minimum of 100cm. Do you think you need flanalette wraps as well as normal. And what is a bunny rug?

    Appreciate everyones ideas.

    hi lulu

personally i have purchased 7 white muslin wraps so far (i figure if one gets spewed on, there is always another one to grab and can be used for over the shoulder - instead of putting a bib on it).

i actually don't like flannelette and find it way too hot. i think its also important to consider what type of heating you have in your house. also if bubs has a singlet top on and then a jumpsuit for example, then you may only need a muslin wrap or light cloth to wrap it in and then another decorative one placed on the top.

just my thoughts - but i am keen to hear what others think too.

We have flannelette and muslin.. probably about 6 of each is what we have. We bought most of them from big W in packs of 3 and they were really cheap. Just make sure you get big ones (at least 1m by 1m ). We were also given about 6 or so others but they were only 80cm and imo they were too small and she grew out of them very soon. We also have some fleecy blankets which we use in the pram, and some of those blanets (the type they use in the hospital) for her bed at night.
    hope that helps?

oh ETA, we got muslin because it was still really hot when she was born. If she was born, say, now, i would have gotten more flannel ones.

I've been wondering about this lately, as I remember wrapping DD constantly, and I remember upgrading to using a cot sheet once she got a bit bigger but I have *no idea* what I wrapped her in during the early days LOL! Talk about baby brain...

COT SHEETS!!! COT SHEETS!!! COT SHEETS!!!

I bought heaps of wraps and blankets, all sorts and materials, and Olivia grew out of them within a week or two and I could never wrap her enough to give her that snuggled feeling.
We use cot sheets now and they are absolutely amazing. We were put onto to these at the sleeping school we went to and Olivia loves her cot sheet wraps.
When I'm out I use wool and polar fleece blankets because it's winter and I find them warmer.

I went to spotlight and got myself lots of material (sort of like crepe) (not muslin, not cheesecloth, but that sort of fabric) anyway, I got them in lengths of 150cm, I think. They were heaps big enough to use as wraps. Of course I recently gave them away then found out I was preg again. Oh well, it was cheap enough. Oh and I just got mum to overlock the 2 raw edges at the end so they didn't fray. Perfect. And for under $10 each !!

Oh Dan what a great idea !! I have flannel wraps that Izzy has outgrrown - and a cottony jersey fabric that is too stretchy and she pulls her arms out!! Brilliant!!
BTW - I wrap her and then have a polar fleecy blanket tucked in around her in the cradle - these Melbourne nights are sooo cold!!! Polar fleece when out here too!!

can i just suggest to everyone to buy a couple of each different sort - you will find some better for the pram, some which suit the cot, a different sort which works better in the bassinet, etc. plus you baby will grow so quickly (although it may not seem like it at times) that how you are using them will change. you really cann't have too many (baby's can be messy little creatures).

my delemia now is do I go out and purchase more of them - this time in blue, instead of the pink I already own...
