    Breastfeeding while pregnant.....

I am just wondering if anyone found that their milk supply dropped once pregnant??
I have noticed the past few days that my poor little man (15 months) is sucking, and sucking away and not seeming to get much. I am not getting a milk let down as much as usual, and as he has so many teeth it is starting to hurt because he is trying so hard to get some milk. Tonight was different because I haven't fed him all day as I have been at work, so it was 8pm before he breastfed, so there was plenty of milk.

Is there anything I can do to improve my supply?? I would like to continue feeding him with a plan to wean at about christmas (about 3 months before I am due).

Any hints and tips on this would be much appreciated, as well as any tips on keeping my energy levels up while feeding and being pregnant.

    Thanks so much in advance!
Also, did anyone find that breastfeeding during pregnancy increased/or decreased their morning sickness? Just curious!

Congratulations on preg and well done for BF so far.

I BF DS1 all thru my 2nd preg and he is still BF now.

My supply must have dropped more towards last 4 months of preg as he would feed less frequent and for shorter periods.

All I suggest is just keep offering the feeds, you may also find that your nipples are highliy sensitive.

After the birth he picked up again and back to being a booby baby!!

    Good luck

My supply dropped a bit and then DD2 weaned herself because of her teething, I found that it made my morning sickness worse. My gp was happy for me to take maxalon if I needed to to control the ms and up my supply if dd wanted to continue to bf.

Thanks Girls...mmm will just see how I go I guess.....haven't been having heaps of water as it makes me queasy..Pepsi Max is all I feel like!! Not so good I know....might have to up my water intake somehow...maybe some no sugar cordial or something.

My Morning sickness with DS turned into HG, so I thinking it may be the case again this time, as I have never been sick so early as this. I took a lot of Maxalon last time, but in the end it stopped working......it only just occured to me that if I do start vomiting a lot like last time, it will be very hard to maintain my supply....hmmm, food for thought. I really want to continue, I BF DD until she was 4.

I found early on there was an increase, but in the last 2-3 weeks it has dropped off almost completely.

This i believe was helped along by her having a bout of gastro last week and not feeding at all.
But about 4 days ago we finished altogether and she weaned, as in her words "They aren't working anymore mum". Like you, we planned to make it to her 3rd birthday in November or Christmas - I wanted to make 3 years! lol Not to be.

Not sure about the morning sickness - I had none with Charlotte and only some very mild queasiness this time around.
The only time I have had morning sickness I was pregnant with twins and miscarried - so contrary to popular belief, morning sickness is not a good omen for me! lol

Try and hang with it, your supply essentially is still demand driven - the more he feeds, the more you will produce theoretically and there are many women on BB who have very successful BF relationships with older children whilst pregnant and go on to successfully tandem feed.
Good luck! If you want to continue, keep going, hopefully your supply will catch up sooner rather than later!

Limeslice- I love that comment about them not working anymore!! DD and I came to a mutual agreement that it was time to stop when she was 4 because she "really was turning into a big girl now". The first morning she came running in to my bed for her usual snuggle and feed, and she remembered without me saying anything, and just snuggled in looking really proud of herself. It was so beautiful

I didn't notice a drop in supply at all. I weaned DS at about 9 weeks pg coz I was just too sensitive.
I also suffered HG. More in my first 2 pregnancies. This one as well, but not quite as bad.
Just try keeping your fluids up. Anyway you have too. Cordial, juice, anything. Eat what you can. It is hard, but your body will take care of the pregnancy first. It'll be harder on you than anyone.
    Goodluck x

DS came to a point in my pg where he would look at me sadly and say "it's empty"! He kept trying, though, bless! He kept suckling, milk or no milk, the whole way through and went from one feed a day by the end of it to getting it whenever he could when my milk came in.
We got through the sensitivity and when that passed is when my supply dropped off. DS turned 3 during my pregnancy, so was pretty attached to the idea of Babu by then and I didn't think he'd give it up. He still hasn't given it up and he turned 4 two and a bit weeks ago

I noticed a drop earlier on and then an increase and now it's dropped again. I think DS is weaning, he's not suckling for as long and won't take my left boob properly. He's now suckling for only a few mins (2-5min) if that, where he used to suck for a long time(10+min) when he went to bed and when he woke. I wanted to get to two years, he's only 6weeks off.....maybe we'll make it!! I had planned on weaning before the new baby comes, and if he weans himslef then it's all the better, such a happy and sad moment!

Supply drops during pregnancy and I"m not sure there's much you can do to increase it again - you're fighting against biology. Your boy may continue feeding anyway, it kinda depends on him and his persistence. My supply disappeared with the IVF drugs and DS continued till around 9-10 weeks with no milk at all, but then gave up. He might be back once my milk returns.
