Girls I have a chest infection atm, and am prone to asthma when I get upper respiratory colds and atm I am wheezing pretty badly. I'm starting to get concerned that bubs won't get enough oxygen (a bit irrationally, but what the hell I've gotta have something to stress over during pregnancy...) and I don't know whether or not I can have ventolin during pregnancy? Any ideas? I have left a msg with the midwives at the hospital but they must be really busy atm...
Christy - sorry but can't help you but I thought Ventolin had a small amount of steriod in it so that would also make me question whether you can have it or not - maybe check with a chemist???
Yep I was gonna suggest ringing the chemist too, they will be able to tell you. Most importantly though, try to stay calm when you feel like this, I know it's much easier to panic but just relax. Try slow, deep breaths.
It is perfectly fine to use ventolin during pg. i get mild asthma due to hayfever and I used it quite a bit during my pg's to help cope with the wheezing from the hayfever because i couldn't take anything for that.
christy
cant help with the ventolin question but i had panic attacks during my pregnancy & one of things was feeling like i couldnt breathe & not getting enough air for me let alone the baby - i was worried about it but the dr's told me that the baby will always take everything it needs from you before i can have it if you get what i mean - so im sure bubba is fine even though you feel like you are dying!
Thanks girls I went to the GP who said ventolin is fine and did some breathing tests. Its all due to this stupid chest infection so will just have to rest & wait it out.
When I was pg last year, I had a blockage in my windpipe which really affected my breathing badly. My SATS were always OK though, so I think the doctors go by that. As long as blood oxygen is ok, bubs will be just fine too. x
