    Castor Oil???

Hi. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried or knows of someone who has tried castor oil and what they think? I was told yesterday that it works, if you warm it up with and mix it with orange juice....I have never tried it before and am curious.....

Don't worry I am not thinking of trying it yet - not unless it comes down to being overdue or trying different things.............

I was told with both pregnancies (tow different care providers) to stay well clear of caster oil. Its very harsh on your system and there are other alternatives to explore.
Evening primrose, accupuncture, DTD for example

sleepy there is some conflicting advice out there but I would not be affraid to do an enema (and probably will depending on what my bowels have been up to) when I go into labour... If there's time etc and I actually 'know' that I'm in labour etc If you are worried about that issue I think it's safe to do one, maybe ask your OB or midwife?

Well I was looking at it from both sides. I wanted something to possibly bring on labour if i needed it and something to help in the cleaning out my body at the same time. I have also heard that a great really hot curry can do the same thing. Anything with chilli or super hot spices always makes my bowels contract and clean them out the next day. So I guess that could be worth a shot too....

I went into a health food store yesterday and asked what they thought, and she said that rasberry leaf tea is supposed to be good, but i used it with last DS and he was 10 days over due. And I know thats not meant for bringing on labour, just to help ripen the cervix. SHe said to warm up the orange juice and castor oil together and it could work. But I have never tried it, and I probably won't this time either, jsut seeing what people think or if anyone ahs tried it.

Raspberry leaf is more for toning the uterus than bringin on labour. What it does is make the contractions you do have more effective, when you have them.

my friend made a mixture of castor oil, raw egg...and something else that i cant remember.

She went into labor within an hour and had the baby after 4 hours in total. She was almost at 40 weeks and had just had enough and wanted to have the baby.

and she certainly did... it was a hard and fast labor.

Peg did your friend mention anything about messy bowel movement during the labour? It can continue cleaning out your system with the runs for hours after you take it.

i was with her during the labor, and while she did experience strong urges in her bowel and thought she needed to get to the toilet, she didnt actually have any movements during labor.

Im not sure what her bowel movements were like afterwards though...she never mentioned anything specific regarding the runs.

But i dont think she would have taken the concoction if she had known how hard and fast her labor was going to be...it was pretty severe. Maybe she drank too much...from what i remember it was half a glass of oil, the egg and something else and i think she drank most of it.

I have not heard of mixing egg in with it....just orange juice.

I think that maybe a good hot curry or an enema or something to that effect might be a better idea. I want a fast labour, but not a severe and stressful labour!

I was induced with DS2 at 37 weeks due to PE, and had the gel at 7.30am, he was born at 3pm. They broke my waters at 2.50pm, he was out in 10 mins. The midwife said that was a record...lol, and it wasn't nice it was so painful because it was soo fast. But i guess it's always painful...lol

Ah that was the other ingredient i couldnt remember. I think the egg has to do with the hormones in the yolk...not 100% sure though.

Yeah, i wouldnt recommend it either. Although perhaps in a smaller dose it might not be as sever. She did have almost a glass of the stuff. Her labor basically came on strong right from the beginning and didnt stop until the baby was born...we left home and got to the hospital an hour after her contractions began and 3 hours after arriving at hospital the bub was born.

her waters didnt even have time to break...the midwife did that about 30 minutes before the birth.
