is anyone going to be handing out cigars after the birth?
Are they handed out when a boy or girl is born?

    No, no cigars here.

I could do with a Beam and Coke though, when it's all over of course! Anyone??

LOL I haven't heard of that since the 1960's. Personally I wouldn't like my DH to smell of a cigar then hold our pure and untainted newborn... but that's just me... I don't even wear perfume in the earliest days because their sense of smell is so strong.

Yep, and I used a fragrance free crystal deodorant. The idea of my babies BFing and being so close to my armpit area that usually smells of a fragrance to me would be like trying to eat a meal in a perfume shop UGH yukko.

I may be wrong but I'd be very surprised if this still happens today. There will definitely not be any cigars when our bubs is born! DH may be fanging for a cold beer (or possibly something a bit harder) but a cigar wouldn't even cross his mind.

If it were something we were interested in, DH would maybe do so at the pub if and when he chooses to wet the babies head with his mates. I'm sure my DH and our friends and family will be more than happy with a cold, tasty beverage though.

PS. I was only joking about me having the Bourbon and Coke! I hope you guys realise! I dread to think you don't.

I think Taurean summed it up nicely.

I'm gonna say that when my oldest son was born, my ex and some family members did have a cigar.
When DH & I had our first baby together we celebrated his birth by sharing a special bottle of port with family.

When DD1 was born the boys shared a cigar or two - but only cos they were very special ones and they needed an excuse...it was at the pub afterwards though!

    Now, no thanks!

huh I had not thought of that.
I love a fat cigar on occasion, though I always feel sick afterwards
I doubt I will be having one but I think DH and the "boys" may like to do this once bubby is home with us.... thats something for us to celebrate and it will be bubbly for the girls (I can have a sniff can't I??)

When DS#1 was born my BIL came round to our place with these really expensive cigars that he had purchased in America insisting that he and DH wet the babys head with a bourbon and a cigar each.
DH doesnt smoke so he hated the cigar - he had one puff and said "no way - thats gross". He was happy to have a bourbon though.
I wasnt very impressed ! At least they stood way down the back of the yard away from the house.
Thankfully after that there wasnt any more offers of cigars for DS#2 and DS#3 !

Andrew received a cigar from a workmate after the birth of one of our boys. He didn't smoke it and he hates them and it is still sitting in our junk drawer.

One of DH's mates brought some special cigar to the hospital after ds was born.. without me realising they had it outside when they where leaving, DH was seeing them out. Disgusting! i sent him home for a shower etc. save it for the pub boys!
like the others i never used any scented products on myself while bfing.
