Cord around bubs neck 2 X.

I had an fantastic 3D scan on Monday to check my amniotic levels (they were spot on) and bubs size. I also found out from the 3D pic the cord is around bubs neck at least twice. I wasn't to concerned at the time but have shown a few people the pics and they have all commented on the cord.

Should I be concerned? my OB said this happens in 10% of pregs and they will monitor bubs HB during the labour. I'm just worried for bubs during birth(can't help it), and also worried it will increase my chances of ending up with a c-sec.

Any info/stories much appeciated.

My 1st DD was born ok after a long labour with the cord around her neck twice & her leg. So I guess it's just a different kind of normal?

ETA - they clamped and cut the cord before the rest of her body was born...musta been too tight to ease over her head (probably because of her foot plus she came out with her hand on her face - bit harder to get untangled I suppose).

My first two had cord around necks twice and born vaginally, they just monitored bubs heart rate, but did that anyway as they actually didn't know till they were born, they check for cords after the head comes out, so can ease it over if need be, my third had it ones around neck and arm.

Its pretty common for them to be around bubs neck. Often the cord is around the neck but its not tight so its just a matter of looping it over and unwinding bub so to speak after birth. And its rare to even know about it until bubs head has been born.

DS was born with the cord around his neck twice, no one knew til i pushed his head out. He had APGAR of 9 at 1 minute so it didnt seem to affect him

DD had the cord wrapped around her neck four times My ob was even impressed!

Having asid that, I ended up having a c-section with DD because of footling breach so the cord being wrapped around her neck was less problematic than it could have been!

But of course now it is one of those paranoid fears I have for my VBAC (which I am determined to have next pregnancy! )

A had the cord around his neck 4 times too. And it had a knot!

It's natural to be worried and with my next PG I asked my OB about the risks and he said it's so common it's really nothing to worry about.

Lachlan was born with the cord around his neck, we didn't know about this until his head had popped out , the midwife said oh he is posterior and has the cord wrapped around his neck. It was just a matter of unwrapping it. No problems for him

Thanks Ladies, I am trying not to stress to much (trying), I sort of wish i didn't know, but i guess knowledge is power and at least the OB is aware of it now.

Just under 3 weeks to go, just have to keep myself busy!!

Hmm, both my girls had the cord around their necks (as did I). DD2 never was an issue, as labour was quite quick, but DD1 was a longer labour (double the time) and it created a problem.
The Ob realised, and said I needed to have an epidural to slow my body down (I was induced) and she came out fine!
I can understand you being concerned, speak to Ob or GP.

Jaffaz I have lost count of the amount of time I have unlooped an umbilical cord from around a baby's neck after their mum had birthed their head - it is really common. Some little ones come out completely tangled around them - cheeky little munchkins. It is perfectly fine to be concerned after all it is your little baby and when everyone points it out you tend to worry more.
Just before I started on maternity leave I was the midwife for a birth where the little boy came out with his hand in front of his head holding the umbilical cord like it was handing it too me - it was so cute!!
