Due to a genetic condition, for all future pregnancies, we will require a CVS. Can anyone please let me know their experience, good an bad. I understand it's not pleasant but doesn't take too long.
I have no experience, but feel for you with your genetic condition. We are doing IVF with PGD due to a genetic condition, and I understand it makes it very difficult.
One of my Belly Buddies had a CVS done to check for a genetic condition. She's not on BB anymore but from what she told us, CVS is quite quick, but painful. I know there are some stats on the risk of miscarriage after a CVS - my Belly Buddy said she felt a bit crampy afterwards which freaked her out, but everything was fine and the pregnancy continued without a hiccup. I think she had the results within the week, and found out she was having a girl at the CVS (rather than waiting until 18-20 weeks like everyone else).
Another friend of mine had a CVS today, but I haven't spoken to her to find out how it went. If she tells me anything when I see her next then I'll report back.
I had a CVS done at 12 weeks due to a genetic condition. It was quite painfull but also not as painful as I expected IYKWIM? It was more the whole sensation and thought of it. I chose to look away while the procedure was being done, I dont recall whether I held DH's hand or the nurses but I do know I think I nearly crippled them with my grip!
I was then advised to take it easy and try and rest up for at least the next 24 hours which I did. I didnt have any cramping or bleeding afterwards. I did end up losing the baby a few weeks later but that wasnt due to the CVS it was due to the babys genetic condition. The results took a few days - I had mine on the Friday and I think they came through on the Tuesday and even then they were rushed through because we were about to travel interstate. I found the sex of the baby, a girl, out when the results came through.
I had CVS testing as they suspected my DD had trisomy 13 or 18. I had it done at 11.5 weeks which is the earliest it can be done. I found out the first results in 2 days and the rest a week later and also found ou we were having a girl at this time. The procedure is painful. I had it through my stomach but I have heard they can do it through your cervix. It is a really long needle thing that is pumped back and forth till the get the fluid they need to test. It only took a few minutes, though was probably there for about 45 mins as had an ultrasound before and after and took a bit of time to set up. I was very crampy afterwards which is terrifying but that went away with a few hours of rest.
I am so sorry for everything you are going through and will continue to go through. Big higs xox
I had a CVS with DD2, and due to unusual placement of both my uterus and the placenta, it was a tricky one for them to do. I found it quite distressing, both painwise and stresswise, but TBH it was over fairly quickly and well worth it for the peace of mind. Added bonus - knowing for sure what colour you're baking (if you want to, that is).
Tashy-I have had 2 cvs and 1 amnio the 1st cvs was through the cervix and like a pap smear painless the next was an amnio through the belly and was very painful hurt like hell when they were sucking the fluid out.
With this pregnancy the cvs was through the belly and not as painful as the amnio but hurt when the needle went through the uterus just for a minute it is bearable and when they pump the needle back and forth to get the placenta tissue or chorionic villi you can hardly feel it sort of a light draging feeling but to be honest it is quick and over and done with i had cramping and spotting after the cervix cvs and it settled after 2 days we had no sex for 4 days to be safe with this cvs the cramping was worse because the placenta was tricky to get to but i had no bleeding and i got a nasty bruise on my belly but i feel fine now and i am feeling baby flutters so all good.
The results for chromosone test are quicker then genetic the chromosone FISH test takes 24-48 hours and the full results take 1 week the genetic results take 10-14 days from when the lab starts to grow the tissue i have been waiting 1 week already and i am expecting results on friday or early next week.
