    Dates???

    just confused on my dates.....
my LMP has me at june 27th
first U/S at 4-5weeks has me at july 7th
second U/S has me at july 2nd

yet my last 4 scans have me a whole week behind- so at my 19week scan bubs measured 18weeks
28 weeks- he measured 27 weeks
    32 weeks measured 31
    37weeks measure 36 weeks
the last 4 scans were done at the same place and they all say they agree with july 2nd as my EDD yet im measureing a week behind that

is it normal and can that mean ill likely go over my EDD
with my first 2 children they both measured on time

I've been told upto a certain point around the 12 weeks is pretty acurate but then the babies grow at different paces IYKWIM. I've been behind just that little bit further at each scan as well, for instance the first one at 7 weeks put me due on the 9th Nov but by LMP i am due the 8th Nov but they were happy to keep me at my LMP dates then at 12 weeks i measured 3 days behind - so out by an extra 2 days compared to 7 weeks but the bloke said to me anywhere up to 5 days at that stage is normal.
If the medics aren't concerned i wouldn't worry yourself too much.

Is it possible that you may have ovulated later in your cycle, hence why you are measuring behing.

With this pregnancy of mine going by my LMP my due date is the 24th November. When I had my scan at 12 weeks it put me due at the 18th November then I had another scan 2 weeks later due to complications and it put me due 21st November. I actually agree with this as I think I ovulated earlier in my cycle, plus I know when DH and I DTD as it was only once and it was a week prior to when I was meant to ovulate, hence why I'm sure I ovulated earlier.

Gee I hope that all makes sense.

Only other thing is you baby might be a bit smaller, but given the consistency of your earlier scans I think you may have ovulated later in your cycle.

Dating scans are most accurate early on. All eggs start off at about the same size and then things like genetics start to come into play as you get further along and the size of babies begins to vary as they develop. But early scans can be inaccurate if the person doing the scans measures slightly off the sac. So it is possible your early scan was slightly out, but the date taken from the early scan is more likely to be accurate than your scans done at 19 + weeks.

When was the second ultrasound done? if it was just a week or two after the first, then that is most likely your most accurate measurement from a scan.....

My OB told me that if you did a scan every month for your entire pregnancy you would get 9 different EDD.
He would only go by LMP. Which is fair enough. DD had severe IUGR and the only way we knew how far along I was was LMP.

Go by your LMP. Don't worry about scan dates.

My LMP put me at June 10th. My 12 week scan put me at June 15th. I figure my LMP is more accurate, accept for the fact i may have ovulated slightly later than the average 14 days. I have no idea what my luteal phase is. If it is slightly longer than 14 days then that puts my EDD back a few days.... So there are a few variables, even using know LMP dates.

I was actually happier going with the later date, as i won't be feeling pressured to be induced.

Not sure i totally agree with this in all instances. I've always had way out there cylces so with DS1 i fell after coming off the BCP around the 2nd month but he was pushed back 4 weeks if looking at LMP dates and with DS2 i was on 42 day cylce so that pushed my dates back 2 weeks but i must admit i was a surprise to fall on a 28 day cycle this time... So i think unless you know your cylces which for DS1 i didn't (bit dumb back then) think i would tend to go with an early scan date.

funny thing is while i was breastfeeding my daughter my cycles were 28days down to the minute yet my last cycle must have been off

when i was breastfeeding my son i might have had 2 cycles before falling pregnant with my daughter (we didnt find out i was pregnant till after 12weeks with her)

im not worried as babies dont have alarm clocks (just ask my son lol)

The earlier scans are the most accurate. Some say ur first scan at about 7wks is most accurate, others say the 12 wk one is, but definitely by the 19wk scan baby is displaying his or her own personal traits ie long or short legs, big head small head etc etc, so that scan and any scans after are not accurate for dating (more just for checking baby is growing steadily by comparing to last scan's measurements and for diagnostic reasons). This was told to me by a sonographer.
It also depends on when you had your scan and when your baby had a growth spurt...........they might measure 5 days behind but if they were measured 2 days later they might measure spot on.

Personally i would use your 2nd scan dates because having your 1st scan at 4 to 5 wks, i would say this is too early to get an accurate measurement.........had it been at 6 to 7 wks then i would have said use those scan results (im assuming your 2nd scan was the 12 wk scan).

Dont stress about baby measuring a week behind for the last 4 scans (mine would measure well over a week behind from about 30wks on, they are small kids but healthy), baby is keeping up being a week behind which shows baby is growing steadily
