    Dates?

    Hi Ladies,
I need some reassurance... this is playing on my mind something silly!
I went for a dating scan about 6 weeks ago and was told i was 6-7 weeks... wonderful, that slotted in nicely with my LMP date of 03/09.

So, i go for a NT scan last week and find out were having TWINS!
But... the dating she measured read as 13 weeks and 1 day. Which means my cycle/AF starts the week before 03/09 which is the week i get dark ikky brownish spotting.

Now would this mean that my AF actually starts with the spotting? Not on the rich red flow that I always thought (and read) was the start? And that i concieved a week or so earlier than I thought... which would also mean that conception was anywhere from 1 to 4 days after AF stopped - bit soon isnt it?

I've been trying to read somewhere about fetus growth spurts... but i didnt think they happened until after 13 weeks... that up until 13 weeks they all grew the same and that measurements for dating were pretty right on.

Any info you can give me would be brilliant, as not only am i confused in general about my little peanuts but what i thought i understood about my body... now seems the opposite!

No expert here Congrats on twins, busy times ahead.

A few days difference is very normal, you might have ovulated a bit earlier this cycle hence the difference, my only advice would be to just use the dates as a guide.

They should give us EDW (estimated due WEEK) instead of EDD - DATE!

    Hope you are well.

Hey, just wanted to congratulate you, sj on your twins!! How wonderful.
Hmmm, I really don't know. I'd be more inclined to go by my LMP dates if I were you, unless your cycle is irregular? 1-4 days after your period to O seems a bit soon to me, but I'm no expert.
My dr told me (when I went for my scan at 13 weeks) that they can get the dates pretty accurate within about a week. So it sounds to me like if you are measuring about a week bigger, your dates are still pretty right, KWIM?
Try not to stress! Enjoy your pregnancy! Join in on the twins or more forums if you like, and join up with your belly buddies group - they are great for sharing your pregnancy experiences with one another All the best for a wonderful pregnancy.

    Congrats on your twins SJ!

I had the same confusion at first because my doctor and the sonographer both put conception at right on or just after my period, instead of the usual two weeks after.

We were dated at 7wk 6d at the first dating scan, with a EDD of dec 11th, and at the 2nd one (12wk scan) with an ED of dec 7th. We asked the sonographer about it (hey ted to know what they're talking about when it comes to the babies developement) and she said that they prefer to go by either one of earlier dates than any later datings as the babies can start to develop at different rates after 12wks.

You also might have ovulated a bit early like I did (my poor doctor was so confused at the first appointment when I told her the last day of my last period because it didn't fit in with the dates she'd been given).

Anyway, good luck and all the best while you wait for your little bundles of joy to arrive

    Thanks girls!
I will just put it down to a growth spurt and stick to my previous thoughts on my cycle!
It didnt help that at the first scan they only picked up 1 bub, so i put his dating accuracy out the window as well!

Its the most confusing time for me, so daunting - but exciting ... with hubby in the navy though i do feel like im going a bit stir crazy going through this on my own atm, (he is back next week though!!) and the one thing i thought i knew was right - me and my cycle - just doesnt seem right anymore.
Hopefully I'll find some sanity next week hey!

I look forward to annoying all you lovely ladies with my silly first time mum questions!

SJ - stay confident in yourself matey! If you know your cycles, your dates are most likely the correct ones!
And, if it were me, I'd be sticking by the later EDD so that you're not emotionally prodded into induction too early, KWIM? With twinnies you may very well go into labour early anyway, so no need to rush things JMO.
Look forward to seeing you around the forums
