    Question Dizziness

    hi,

i've had a couple of dizzy spells lately and all i've been doing is sitting still. i havent been lying on my back or standing up too quickly. should i go see my gp and be worried about it or just try to take it a bit easier?

    Hi Michelle,

I used to get a bit dizzy too and sometimes it was because I hadn't been drinking or eating enough. Just try to take it easy I guess and see how you go. If it gets worse though I would head to the GP.

    Hi Michelle
You don’t say how many weeks pregnant you are but I am guessing you are in the first trimester. One possible and common reason for your dizziness is a low BP. The reason for a low BP in early pregnancy is your veins and arteries are getting bigger to cope with the extra blood your body makes during pregnancy. By week 36 you can have as much as 70% more blood volume. So what is happening to you is that your blood vessels are getting bigger but your body has not made enough blood to fill them all. This can cause you to feel dizzy at any time but can be a major problem when standing up quickly.

I was so dizzy between 23-26 weeks the spinning head actually woke me up at night. I have always had low blood pressure, but this was nutz. The doctors checked but was no lower than normal (for me - 50/90). It seems to have eased now, (I'm 27 weeks) but one possible explanation was that i was busier than usual (moving house) or that i had recently stopped taking a medication (very low dose anti-depressants). During this time i also had severe stomach pain below my ribs all the way through my body. the pain was so bad a night i couldn't stand up to wash the dishes without crying. It went away too once the move was behind us and life calmed down to a slower pace. Have you perhaps been a bit stressed or busy lately?
