Do I buy a breastpump before bub is born or do I get one after?

My DD was in SCN so I had to express whilst she was there. Hubby went out an bought an electric Medela just in case we would need to express at home. It got used so much I broke it as DD refused the boob at 6 wks. Rather than putting her on formula I chose to express all her feeds. So for me having one ready to go when she flatly refused the boob and the MW's couldn't get her to attach either was a godsend.

Everone is different! Do what you are most comfortable with.

i would wait, but if you think you might want one find out where you can get them near you so you don't have to search if you decide you do want one.

You can often hire electric pumps from chemists or the ABA if you need one and dont want to buy one.

Have you thought about doing a BFing class? women s hospitals often run them or the ABA has a list of classes on their website.

I was going to say exactly what Kate07 said. Find out where you can get one at short notice if you need it.

When I had DS2 we went out on day 4 when my milk came in & bought the first one we could find, I needed it desperately to express a bit off the top do he could latch.
When I was PG with DD2 I thought I'd be prepared, bought a pump, - & we ended up full time expressing, so I took it back & got a double electric pump.

You never know what you're going to need, and you might not need one at all.
The other option might be to buy one but make sure you can return it if your needs change.

Was going to wait until bub was born to make sure my milk would actually come in properly, but there was only one place in town that sold the one i wanted (medela swing) and there was only one on the shelf so i grabbed it so i wouldnt be without if i need it straight up
