Does diet affect the glucose test?

I have my referral for the glucose test and I have to get it done either tomorrow or the following tuesday as they are the two times when DH can take the girls for me.

So Im sitting here this afternoon wondering if I should go in tomorrow and get it over and done with, or give myself a week to make sure my diet is awesome.

So Im wondering does your diet affect your glucose tests or not??

I remember with DD2 I had gastro for 2 or 3 days prior to the test and had only consumed lemonade for those days. When i told the midwife she did mention something about the test would be high because of the sugar in my system, but then my results were quite low, so much so that they were surprised about it.

I wondered this too when I got mine done. My diet has been terrible with this pregnancy, I've been craving (and giving into!) all sorts of bad things and was worried about my result. But all was good thankfully

Sorry I'm not very helpful am I!

Thanks CM, I like hearing that you had no problems!!

My diet is pretty good, but considering today my diet has been pretty bad, and its finishing off with homemade pizza's and more than likely chocolate (the stress easing kind) to finish off the night. But then Im thinking my weetbix with brown sugar for breakfast before I go in there wont help either. All this thinking is stressing me out, darn it

It can affect it but only if you eat a chocolate bar or something just before they test your blood. This is what they told me when they did mine.

Otherwise long term diet I don't think has a massive affect on it.

I was pretty keen to pass the GT test as a positive result would have got me kicked out of the birth cente. So I ate scrambled eggs for breakfast on the morning of the test and also went for a brisk walk. And I was clear both times despite having a number of risk factors for GD! Coincidence or not, I'll be doing the same next time.

I just rang up and enquired for mine which I need to have in 2 weeks.

Mine is the hour test 75g load.

I was advised not to fast prior to the test and to have a substantial meal 1hour before going in for the test. And then to sit still for the hour and then come in for bt and drink.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks Lys!!

I went in this morning whilst DH had the girls, drank my drink, and sat for an hr and read my book in peace. if I didnt feel so horrid after the drink, and didnt have to get the bloods done, I was thinking I would do it again just to get the hr's peace and quiet and space to read my book. I was in absolute heaven!!

I did ask whether diet affects the test and the lady couldnt give me an answer.

I didn't know I was having the test the day I went in, I was eating a chocolate bar on the way! Thankfully, a normal result.
