relle, you cheeky sod!! having your baby so quickly without giving us a chance to send positive calming labour thoughts!! i hope that you made it to Cabrini in time, and Dennis made it there in his pink polo for the climax!!
Gorgeous name, and i can't wait to hear your birth story!!
-
He is sooooooo beautiful!
Just got back from visiting the legend and Angus is a gorgeous little man!!! Relle looks so good you would never know she's just had a baby!!
-
Aaaawww.... i want to meet mine now too!! still another 10-12 weeks to go...
I'm just about to start writing my birth plan now so that i can go through it with Dennis at my appointment on monday... hope he doesn't think i'm a hippee!!
-
Ha ha ha - Ella, he didn't think I was a hippy and I had everything in it - he goes through every point with you. And is really good.
I'm sure Di told you to send it to cabrini too - they are very good because they know what's in it when you're in labour. No one mentioned pain relief to me not once!!!!!
-
Kirsten - yes, i'm planning on hand-delivering it to Cabrini and getting them to put it in my notes (i'll use any excuse to try and get a peek through the window of the nursery in Cabrini though!)... glad to hear that no one tried to offer you pain relief - i wasn't sure whether they'd actually bother reading it...
-
Ella: I was there through 3 shift changes and every single midwife was aware of my birth preferences. I was very impressed!! They even reminded me that I requested vit K orally, even though by the time Quinn was born I decided I didn't want him to have it at all :) The hospital ante natal classes actually made me really worried about labour, they focussed so much on "pain relief" that I was expecting the midwives to push it on me, but they were sooo soooooooo good, they pretty much left me to it and were there when I wanted them and came in and did their obs and then left again - only once did i have an internal in the whole 13 hours I was there and that was at Dennis' request because my waters hadn't broken, and they asked me if it was ok.
-
Kirsten -- I have been writing (sort of) my birth plan and I have some strong ideas. I have not yet given it to Dennis, but when I discuss some of my thoughts, I have been a little put off. Perhaps he is not sure if I am asking because I am not wanting intervention or am asking because I do ... but for eg I have asked a lot about natural birthing of placenta -- he's clearly not into it. Also I have expressed concerns about episiotomy (?sp) and he sort of just threw it off saying that you could tear anyway and this can be better etc etc. Perhaps I am also paranoid and mis reading him, because you know I think he's great ...
When do you give this to the midwives? Before admission?
-
It's really important that you have a carer who respects your birth plan... if you have a carer who doesn't respect your choices and preferences now, then what about labour? Will it be any different? It's important to make your preferences clear and agreed upon now. These are your choices for your birth, don't comprimise how you feel just to keep the peace... you'll remember this forever - your carer wont.
-
Absolutely Kelly.
Nox: The first time I mentioned that I wanted to birth the placenta naturally Dennis sort of blew it off saying something about how syntocinon is routine etc etc , but once I put it in writing he knew it was what I wanted, during labour he was brilliant, he made sure Darren (my partner) saw that the cord has stopped pulsating before he clamped it (he tried to show me, but I was in a zombie state and wouldn't have known if he was showing me a pumpkin at that point) my placenta was delivered very quickly afterwards anyway (within 5 minutes and he wanted to show me that too) but he was well aware of everything I wanted. I posted my preferences to the hospital and it was put on my file. I also took a copy with me just so there was no excuses, I was really put off by the ante natal classes so was going a bit over the top - but in the end I had exactly the birth I wanted (if a little longer than I planned) and I am very glad I made my preferences known to everyone!
-
Thanks Kelly and Kirsten,
I am writing out the prefs this week in preparation for my next appointment. I think that once I write it down I will also feel better. It is also quite possible that he is not certain which way I want him to play it yet either. After all we have such short time with the Obs when you think about it.
Kirsten, how long and how detailed was your plan? I went to a fab natural birth class and she showed us some egs. One of them was only 1 page long which seems great as there is less for everyone to read, but of course doesn't go into details like if this happens then try this first, second etc ... Did you go into a bunch of scenarios?
BTW everyone -- visited the mighty Relle and GORGEOUS son!!! They both look amazing, healthy and so happy!
-
Hey ladies ... I was trying to find the conversation by scrolling backwards through our thread ...
Where and who did your calm birthing classes?
Can't find it on the thread ...
-
Nox i agree with Kirsten, Dennis always respects your wishes he may initially just blow it off he may think you will change your mind, but put it in writing and you'll be right.:D
i have never had an episiotomy or tearing but i have heard the same thing from others who have had them and have teared excessively that it can be better to have an episiotomy, i am not talking about small tears but tears that require like 20 to 30 stitches.
But there thing you can do to prevent an episiotomy or tearing like massageing the area (you know where).
Dennis pnly gives episiotomy if only needed, i was told by the midwive that iwas concerned when Sebie was transverse at 37 weeks as i really did not want a cesar, Dennis kept saying don't worry he will turn, the midwive said if in the end Dennis says if you need a cesar or an episiotomy then you really need it, he does not like to do them routinely (this is from her own mouth), he has even turned a second twin whie in utero so the woman could have the twins delivered naturally.
So i think that he may of been a bit like that cause he does not give them routinely.
So don't worry just write it down, and do that excersise down there or get hubby to do it for you:D
Anyway i have to go and hope you ladies are doing well, i saw Angus on Wednesday and he is soooooo gorgeous and Relle looks amazing!
-
Hi girls! Thankyou all for your well wishes, and the visits, they were lovely!!!
Feeling quite sad to leave this morning, but felt good knowing I will be back there in about 6 weeks with Nox. (who looks awesome to by the way for 34 weeks preggo!!!)
-
Calmbirthing - see Di Gardner - http://www.dianegardner.com.au/
-
Nox - what are you doing online in the wee hours of the morning lol!!!! Bummer we didn't get a chance to meet last Thursday, maybe another time.
Relle - glad to see you are back posting already! I can imagine it was a bit sad leaving, esp the nice food and very comfortable surroundings. Hope your first day home hasn't been too hectic. Is Cooper feeling any better? Angus is such a beautiful, perfectly shaped baby - I told you you'd make me clucky lol!!!! You might be able to convince me to try for 3# now. Take care babe!
-
HI RELLE!!!!!! It's sad leaving Cabrini, I was sad leaving when I was there visiting!! :D
Hope all is well now that you're home with the whole brood!
Nox, my plan was a page, I can send it to you if you like. Let me know your email and I'll send it to you. And I did calmbirth with Di Gardner = she's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hi girls,
Just a quick pop in while Rod has Campbell and Cooper and Angus are "resting"!!! lol
We have had a pretty settled return home, life is chaotic, but seems like having a new baby is the least of my pressing issues!! I was vacuuming the floors within 15 mins of getting home and have already done a full shop on the weekend, loads of washing and cooking, dishes etc!
Angus was great last night, he went from 9pm feed through to 4am before wakign and then was quite unsettled till the boys woke at 5.30am, then he went back to sleep till 9am for another feed - can't complain about that. If we could just get the older boys sleeping longer, we will be right.
The builders are still drilling, and I am dead set ready to kill them, they keep waking Cooper every day, no wonder the poor kid is not getting any better.
Well they have woken him again, best I go and try to resettle him.
-
Hey girls! I have FINISHED WORK!!!!!!!!
I have just woken up as well --- 1030 am! LOVE IT!
Kirsten, I have sent you a message w my email in it. A copy of your plan would be unreal.
Mel, I know! The class was going late -- but how funny that we were all there at the same time!!!!
Relle darling, how is it all going? Have you had a chat to the builders?
-
hi girls!
Well I am soooooo in love with my new little man! He went from 10pm to 5am on tues night and then 10pm tp 6am last night, and he is just sooo chilled through the day as well!
Nox I need to arrange a time to come and see you to hun next week, let me know what is good for you!
-
Hi guys good tohear the Little Angus is a charmer for mummy!!
Actually Sebie did the same thing must be the middle child syndrome!!!
Sebie still is a great sleeper 7pm to 6am boooootiful!!!
Okay i know what i am having and it's another boy.
I am okay with it and not shocked and not too upset. Just happy he is okay i have had some bleeding on and off so had to have a U/S to check it out all is clear and baby is mighty fine.
So little baby Alexander Robert (for hubby) is welcomed to the famil with no girls but mum, (oh well atleast i will get spoilt)
-
Congrats Ros! That is wonderful that you and bub are healthy ... you have yourself a little team, don't you! Great news!
Relle sweetie, you tell me what works for you. We are away from Thurs 02 - Thurs 09. Why don't I just email you birth pref this weekend and we can discuss on email, MSN, phone. Might just be easier for you, don't you think?
-
Relle: you can never underestimate the power of the routine!!! ;) not to mention the power of you being such a champ!
Ros: Yay for you with your lovely boys - great to hear everything is healthy!!
So onto 2nd children for all of you legends who have had them...what do you think is a good age difference, both for the kids and for the mum being able to deal with a new one. Not that i am trying to break any records here, just considering at the moment. I want to at least wait till Quinn is 1.
-
For me 2 years was a perfect gap. James andJayden are best friends but it wasn't so stressful when they were little as James was already able to talk and sort of out of nappies, it was a nice gap
-
Ros- Hun I am so glad everything is well with little Alexander, you had me worried the other day hun, but I didn't want to ring and hassle you! Your boys are going to absolutely dote on you hun! Imagine your poor dil they will always come second best to their Mum!
Fahncy - 2 years is a good age gap, however a bit earlier is not a problem either! I am sooo not a champ - you know how much the older 2 do my head in sometimes!
I am already getting clucky again! lol Can you believe that! I do know however, that this poor old body would not cope with another pregnancy right now, so we will wait till this 3 are off to school, and then who knows how many more!!!!!!
Nox - we should get another appt in anyway before you go and then last one after you get back at about 39 weeks, so I am good to catch up anyday next week, or night to see your DH too, Rod is still home all next week so I am still flexible. I know I have just had a baby, But I am your Doula, and as your Doula, I want and need to give you the same ( and more! lol) attention I would give any client.
-
Relle you did this last time with Cooper you can NOT get CLUCKY!!! Cause you just have to think it amd BAM you are pregnant!!!!
Nox so happy that your time is almost there!!! how exciting
-
lol Ros! I know, I am clucky, but NO MORE YET!!!! Will be having a VERY in depth conversation with Dennis at my 6 week check up about some birth control! lol
I am not ready to hang up my having baby boots though! lol
-
Relle I reckon you would make a great, pumped up Doula about now ;) LOL she's in for a treat ;) xx
-
LMAO Kelly! I would wouldn't I! heheheheheheh I had the health nurse come today and when she asked my occupation and I said Doula, she was all excited and very Pro Doulas, so I gave her some business cards! lol
I Can't wait for Nox's birth!!!!! Really looking forward to it!
-
Relle you are hilarious -- talking about your next already -- you were talking about it in Cabrini even! I have a Dr D appointment on Mon morning ... maybe that day would be good? Will email you.
You will make a spectacular doula I am positive (obviously!) and I can't wait either!!!! LOL
-
Kirsten -- thanks for your info hon. One more question ... did they monitor you as soon as you walked in though? Even once you gave them the prefs? ie did you have to be checked for dilation, heartbeat etc? Did you have to lay on those beds? (Just had last hospital class last night where we visited the rooms).
-
Bogan: You are out of control! You're going to have a housefull and will need to build another wing onto your new big house!!!!
2 years huh...sounds good to me!
Nox: No dilation checks until I was 8cms...and only a couple of hours away from having him - (I think - labour time is weird time). They put the monito on me as soon as I got there but I was sitting on the bed and stood up everytime I had a contraction while it was on, after that I got in the shower and stayed there for 8 hours!!!! They only did an internal later on because I was pushy and my waters hadn't broken and Dennis asked them to do one, they asked me if it was ok, and didn't push it at all, I was ok with it because I wanted to know what was happening anyway, and it was no big deal. The room visit freaked me out bigtime.
-
Hello lovely ladies & Fahncy!
Well I am officially back working! heheheheheh Caught up with the lovely Nox for an appt yesterday, and then lots of ringing around and booking in follow up appointments with future clients. Lucky I LOVE my job now! heheheh Feels good to be getting back into things though and get that fire in the belly again for helping women birth.
I had my first internal with Angus at 8cm too and VERY pushy, then he was pushed out 15 mins later! lol I know that pushy sound!!!! I am actually very thankful I had actually witnessed a birth prior to having Angus, cause I was actually able to recognise and register that pushy sound and knew that I had to get to hossie quick smart.
Yeah Fahncy, there may well be another one - time will tell. We were out car shopping today for a larger car!!!!
-
Relle was an absolute champion. I should talk about you on another thread, hun. Everyone on this one knows how amazing you are!
Actually I hardly ever look on other threads ... I should get onto it now that I have the time!
kirsten, was there any reason that you didn't end up using the bath?
BTW Dr D was fine with my birth plan. He passed no negative comments or questions. Said it looked straightforward and to not forget to bring it to the birth. He also said great things about Relle (as my doula).
All that makes it feel so much better for me!
*sigh*
-
aaawwwww Nox - you are a sweety! Chat away about me, so long as it it all good! ;)
Huni - you are so well prepared, You are going to have an awesome birth experience! :D
-
Nox: I didn't even think about the bath. Don't know why, maybe because there was no way I was sitting down for anyone, I stood up most of the time and when I wasn't standing I was kneeling and leaning over the fitball, I ended up with VERY swollen ankles and grazed knees :D Also if it's wasn't mentioned I forgot everything in labour! Which is another reason the birth plan was important. And why DP was SUPER important.
-
Relle - you'll be getting a bus soon lol!!! Toyota Tarago maybe, the family truck?
Nox - how exciting finishing classes, thats when you know the end is near.
Kirsten - I have 3 1/2 years between mine and there are good and bad points for it. Sometimes I think the gap is too big, other days its perfect! I like the independance Chelsea has and can dress herself and play by herself etc while I spend time with Marley. But now Marley is walking, the fighting has started as Chelsea can't understand why she won't leave her toys alone! I am still trying to work out if and when to have #3, so maybe I'm not much help lol!!!!
Ros - great news that everything is OK with Alexander Robert (beautiful name!). You must be such a good mum to your boys that destiny decided to send you another one.
-
Right this is really all SO confusing!!!!
Off to Lorne tomorrow and the deal was that I would pack a labour bag ... following from all the lists though it seems a LOT of stuff to pack!!!
Did you all have massive suitcases to take in -- what with labouring stuff, hospital stay stuff, baby stuff, etc etc etc ... I have a suitcase that just has diapers and pads! What is that???????????
-
Nox - how funny!!!!
The list they give tends to be a bit long, but I know first time round I packed everything they told me and I marked it off religiously. Second time round I knew what to leave out. I had one small suitcase for my stuff (which wasn't too much), my trusty make up case and one very small kids suitcase for baby stuff. I didn't have to supply nappies so that was one big thing to leave behind. If you not sure about anything just ask us, we are sure to steer you in the right direction!
Have fun at Lorne.
-
Nox: I used all of the cabrini baby clothes and nappies, so only take something to take the baby home in, unless you feel like you REALLY NEED to dress in all the new clothes.
The list is long...we had one labour bag, my bag, Darren's bag and Quinn's bag...and a BEAN BAG!!!!!! We took it into labour but I didn't like it at all once we got there. (Its a great one that I used to love lying in when I was pregnant it has a belly hole in it - in my calmbirth classes I loved the beanbag in the practise labour sessions :) Anyway your DH can always go home and bring stuff if you forget it.
-
Morning Ladies!
Well I am onto day 3 of being home alone with all 3 of them. It has not been as bad so far as what I thought, although feed times are a bit tricky. I am desperate for our move though as Cooper is still waking the entire household at 5 - 5.30am. Angus is sleeping through till around 6am though, so I feel very lucky with him. He is brilliant at night, can be a little bit unsettled through the day, or sleeps all day, no in between really! lol
I can't wait till we have more space and outside area for the boys to play, am hoping that more room will tire the boys out more and they sleep better.
Not much else happening here, still doing plenty of appt with clients, took on a new client last week due in Jan, my first gig as a fully fledged Doula, so that is exciting. I have updated my Doula profile on here mentioning Cabrini as a regular hospital for me, so hoping to get more births there.
Hope everyone is well and all of the bubbas are growing nicely and getting ready to meet their mummys!!!
