    Grade 4 placenta previa

Hi i was told yesterday at 19 weeks 2days that i have a grade 4 placenta previa it totally covers the cervix.
The u/s tech said it will unlikely move completely out of the way in time for a natural birth.
Has anyone had a grade 4 PP at 19-20 weeks that moved in time for a natural birth.
I have had no spotting at all.
Any advice would be great What about sex can we still have sex when i have had no spotting?

    Hi Ferrals,

I had placenta previa (not sure what grade!). It moved in time for the birth (although I had an emergency CS anyway for something unrelated). I bled throughout my pregnancy (big clots which were very scary!). I was told not to have sex (I think it was from 12-24 weeks or thereabouts). If I were you I would ask your OB just to be safe.

    Hope it sorts itself out

    Take care xx

I had a grade 4 and it didn't move and ended up with a c section at 34 weeks after I had 2 big bleeds. I started spotting at 30 weeks and was banned from sex as soon as I started spotting. I have heard that they do move but it's unlikely. Pm me if u want to know more. Xx

Oh gosh... imagine ferrals with no sex. We may as well stop the world from turning right now

I had a grade 3, and it moved. I know someone who had a grade 4 though, and it didn't move. She spent a bit of time in hospy on bedrest.

So it might be a sunroof exit for your little wonderwoman. But you know it'll be worth it.

I have something slightly different - Vasa Praevia - and it's recommended no sex and no orgasm in my case just to make sure labour doesn't start which is a big risk for me!! So I hear your pain on that one!!
I have a low lying placenta with the vasa and my OB said it can move up and that a 32-34 week scan often shows movement as the uterus increases in size.
He also said not to panic about it that early on because there is some much variance in the way a body can respond. Did you get advised to have another scan any time soon?
Apparently advice can vary greatly about what you can and can't do - eg exercise and resting etc.

teresa - thank you for sharing. May I ask if that's why they delivered early? It's so nice to know someone else who has experienced vasa praevia.

Hi Ferrals.I had a placenta praevia with Daniel and was told at 21 wks i'd most likely need a c sec. By 28 wks it had moved a bit and by 34 wks was clear enough to allow natural delivery.only time will tell how much or if it will move.

Srose yeah it was. My ob didn't want to risk my pregnancy any further with the vasa previa and the bleeding. No one told me at the time what vasa previa was either

vasa previa is when fetal vessels crossing or running in close proximity to the cervix. These vessels course within the membranes (unsupported by the umbilical cord or placental tissue) and are at risk of rupture when the supporting membranes rupture.

Teresa - Sure was - 5th transfer was successful after 4 years of trying!! Vasa is apparently more common in IVF conceptions - ironic really lol!
