Hi i was told yesterday at 19 weeks 2days that i have a grade 4 placenta previa it totally covers the cervix.
The u/s tech said it will unlikely move completely out of the way in time for a natural birth.
Has anyone had a grade 4 PP at 19-20 weeks that moved in time for a natural birth.
I have had no spotting at all.
Any advice would be great What about sex can we still have sex when i have had no spotting?
I had placenta previa (not sure what grade!). It moved in time for the birth (although I had an emergency CS anyway for something unrelated). I bled throughout my pregnancy (big clots which were very scary!). I was told not to have sex (I think it was from 12-24 weeks or thereabouts). If I were you I would ask your OB just to be safe.
I had a grade 4 and it didn't move and ended up with a c section at 34 weeks after I had 2 big bleeds. I started spotting at 30 weeks and was banned from sex as soon as I started spotting. I have heard that they do move but it's unlikely. Pm me if u want to know more. Xx
Audax you crack me up and i know i had a nightmare last night dreaming about no sex OMG! it will kill me but the longer the wait the bigger the bang i say.
we will just get in as much as we can now before any problems arise.
I have something slightly different - Vasa Praevia - and it's recommended no sex and no orgasm in my case just to make sure labour doesn't start which is a big risk for me!! So I hear your pain on that one!!
I have a low lying placenta with the vasa and my OB said it can move up and that a 32-34 week scan often shows movement as the uterus increases in size.
He also said not to panic about it that early on because there is some much variance in the way a body can respond. Did you get advised to have another scan any time soon?
Apparently advice can vary greatly about what you can and can't do - eg exercise and resting etc.
Hi Ferrals.I had a placenta praevia with Daniel and was told at 21 wks i'd most likely need a c sec. By 28 wks it had moved a bit and by 34 wks was clear enough to allow natural delivery.only time will tell how much or if it will move.

: fixed caps lock for you :)
Srose yeah it was. My ob didn't want to risk my pregnancy any further with the vasa previa and the bleeding. No one told me at the time what vasa previa was either
Thanks for the replies ladies i see my Dr on thursday to discuss when to scan next to check on my placenta i was told that it has been in the exact same position since 14 weeks so it hasnt moved in 6 weeks but i still have hope.
vasa previa is when fetal vessels crossing or running in close proximity to the cervix. These vessels course within the membranes (unsupported by the umbilical cord or placental tissue) and are at risk of rupture when the supporting membranes rupture.
Thanks for checking in on me girls.
Ok so my placenta hasnt budged yet and i have been sent to a high risk specialist for the rest of my pregnancy 1st appt on the 10 of dec i was told because of the PP and the fact that this bub is an IVF bub and our genetic history with losing Abbi the best place for me is under a specialist until bub is born.
I asked about vasa previa and they said i am at a high risk for that also but they wont check for that until a bit later and if i have it then it will be a c section for sure as like teresa said if you go into labour the vessels can rupture and the baby can bleed out in less than 3 minutes very scarey so the plan so far is no excercise no lifting we dont have to abstain from sex just yet as i have had no spotting but it has to be gentle and no deep penatration they will decide if we have to stop at the next appt in three weeks if all goes well and no complications a c section around 37 weeks.
I will find out more info and have an action plan when we see the specialist in 3 weeks.
But our little disco queen is so far healthy and happy in there and as long as i can keep her in there until at least 34 weeks that will be good.
Ferrals - it's good news then so far... and really it is too early to know for sure if things will move... My OB is happy to wait until the 32-34 week scan before making the final call for us. And IVF definitely has it's consequences it seems
Glad that you are still free and clear so far.
