Yep, I held off in the first tri and gave in by the second and had half a head of foils.
Honestly, I felt that if the foils didn't touch my scalp, I'd be fine..

yeh thats a good point...i think if u just foil the heck out of it its much better than a full colour directly on ur scalp

i've been googling this one too...i'm so damn grey now i colour my hair monthly. apparently it's ok to colour, but i agree, i'm much more comfortable with going for the foils option. and if you have a local tafe that does hairdressing, you can have them done cheap there!!

colouring is completely fine during pregnancy

I am a hairdresser the only thing I would not suggest is putting bleach on the scalp as you are producing alot more heat through your body being pregnant and sometimes can cause the bleach to liquidize so I would say if you are blonde do the foil option if you are a darker colour go for a demi-perminant its in between a semi and a permanent so it covers greys but does not contain the high peroxide levels

Hi - if you do a search on BB you will find heaps of old threads about hair colouring - it is obviously something us girlies have all been concerned about!

I held off till this week (38 weeks) and I checked with my hair dresser and he said that yeah foils are best as very little touches the scalp. I feel so much better now just as my hair looks nice and i got a lovely cut as well. My SIL is a hair dresser and she had her hair done throughout her PG and obviously was doing other ladies hair the whole PG.

I was also worried about smell from the treatment but seriously there was no smell at all.

Perfectly fine, i did hold off in my first trimester just to be safe but i've had my hair done a couple of times. It's perfectly safe but i'd stick with what 'Miss K' said and steer clear of bleach. Also beware that hair colour sometimes doesnt take so well to preg womans hair (can be slightly dif colour to what you wanted) just be sure to let the hairdresser know and if it doesnt turn out they can fix it. lol

    Good luck

MissK - hey! is half a head of tint, is that bleaching?? lol i have no idea. usually my hairdresser will do half a head of tint all over top half of my head and then foils over that....she pastes it all over my scalp so im guessing thats not a good thing? I've been wanting to get it done but not been sure.....

mmm perhaps just foils for me then.

Ren chicky babe! I would get her to do 1 tint foil then 1 of the bleach just to be safe tint is similar to bleach just not as powerful she can do back to back foils in splices to make sure no colour touches the scalp i have to do my sisters full head of bleach in foil but it looks like an all over colour as her scalp blisters when bleach touches it but she loves being white blonde hehe!

My hairdress said its totally fine for colouring. He prefers to wait until the 2nd tri though.
Apparently some die may go throught he scalp but it goes straight out too!

I would probably avoid the bleach too - but thats cos I would look awful as a blonde

I didn't color mine at all during the pregnancy. I just put up with greys & stripy hair. After 3 losses I wasn't taking any chances with anything that I couldn't find good evidence that it was OK.

I researched it quite a bit on the net and found that although most hairdressers will tell you it's safe to do (and it is thought to be safe) very little research has been done on it so they don't really know either way. That said it probably is fine as most pregnant women do seem to do it and go on to have healthy children.
