I know someone who got it wrong (at the 12 week) and when they found out at the 20 week my friend was devestated. It's not she wanted one sex more, but she'd bonded and basically planned her future (as you do). She had 20 weeks to adjust, but I can understand her shock.
I would get another u/s if I was you. To me that is the most unclear thing I've ever heard. Im sorry for you that he didn't spend another few minutes having a good look for the three lines. xo
I had issues with gender with DD2.
I desperately wanted a boy.
I hoped the whole way through the pregnancy that they were wrong. They weren't.
I am glad that I knew before hand though. I had the rest of the pregnancy to prepare myself. I had to find out with DS. I don't know what I'd have done if he was another girl. I don't know why, but I needed him.
Lulu2 & Webmeg - I think 16 weeks is the earliest they cen tell. So they had no chance of knowing at 12 weeks.
My sonographer told us at 12 weeks he was 80% sure it was a boy...we took it with a grain of salt and in our minds, we genuinely didn't know what we were having as we thought it was just waaay too early to tell. We just forgot about it after a little while.
It was only a while after he was born that we thought...hey, he was right!
They can apparently have a go at 12 weeks, but it's pretty iffy, that why they usually won't tell you then. I do know a couple of people who were told what the sex might be at 12 weeks.
I wouldn't be feeling too confident either way with that response.. with DD we were told it was a 70% chance and this time around the sonographer was very sure and looking at the pics (in my gallery!) we are too. Having said that, I have a little space in the back of my mind open to the fact that scans are not an exact science and that this bubby could surprise us all by being another little girl! I have bought boy stuff and am about to decorate his room etc. but know that all might change in 8 weeks time... It's a tough one but it doesn't sound like he was too sure either way.
My neighbour was told on I think 8 different occasions that she was having a boy. She had a girl. This was about 10 years ago so I guess the machines are better these days but I still would've thought they would've got it right somewhere along the line. She only found out it was a girl at the birth.
I would never have gone out buying blue clothes for my bub if I hadn't known for sure that it was indeed a he. I knew this as we'd had an amnio. Even so my sonographer told me of an incident where an amnio report said one sex and the ultrasound clearly showed the opposite sex. Turned out the person typing the amnio report and done a typo - the actual results showed it was the sex that matched the scan. Luckily the parents of the bub didn't want to know the sex so there was no disappointment involved.
Thanks guys. Im still not 'sure' if its a boy or girl, but I think its a boy based on the sonographers educated guess. We dont want another scan at this stage because it is kind of 'fun' not really knowing.
We found out our first DS was a boy at 19 weeks and there was never any doubt of this at any one of the 4 scans I had. The sonographers (and my Obs) were always sure and showed me the appropriate 'evidence' then (Ie the view from underneath). I suppose I just expected this time to be the same. I thought it should be pretty obvious if it is a boy, but apparently not. I never knew that they got it wrong so many times.

It's a tough one but it doesn't sound like he was too sure either way.
